a dream landscape
Sometimes they take you away outside
--the stars take you away--
at night

travel time
with no light to obstruct

and it's so quiet
pounding in the ears
pressure of absence

only
infinite
motion

and the mistake so easily made
to think yourself ambassador
to the stars

But the worlds are all down there
these are not worlds

How could a world have such peace?

The worlds are all down there
world upon world
fragmented together

eating their own flesh
wearing each other's jewels

and it's so quiet

you can hear the death rattle
from world to world

This poem has such a delicate beauty.

Those last 8 lines are simply brilliant. They evoke a feeling that is both familiar and disturbing. There is something you just can't get away from. You have to face it.

I read it over and over again... slowly.
