"My Lily and I"

I met my love on the side of the road and we engaged in a kiss
And from then on my Lily and I stuck together like skin to a cist
She was calm and she was shy, quiet as the Summer's eve
In fact she spoke not even a word she wore emotion on her sleeve

We climbed the mountain tops so high and hugged the clouds with our dreams
Placed our hearts upon the shores of restless rolling streams
Beating forever now, the waters over Lily and I
Sharing I love you in the pale moonlight, that's when she began to cry

Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah with a gasp
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, my love has come home at last

I showed my Lily to passers-by and they looked at me kind of strange
Well, jealous and insecure are they, and unwilling to change
Like Frick & Frack, two peas in a pod, Forrest Gump and his girl Jenny
She was my bestest friend in the world and I asked her to marry me

Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah with a gasp
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, my love has come home at last

The years went by like clouds in the sky and we lived liked king and queen
But somehow I knew this affair would end, I just tried not to believe
Then one slow and muggy night, I left my window ajar
And all of a sudden a storm came through and ripped my Lily apart

There she lay on my floor, scattered but still looking O.K.
Just as I reached for my Elmer's glue the wind swept her away

Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah with a curse
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, my love has gone from bad to worse

It?s been a long and hard while without my Lily around
The searching has ceased, over, and done, I?ve checked every lost and found
I wonder what she?s doing tonight, has she found someone new?
To take her home and watch her grow, teach her I love you?

I?ve made a choice, I?ve made up my mind, I?m gonna leave this place
Leave everything behind and start with a brand new face
Maybe Tom Cruise, Clint Eastwood would be nice, or even John Cusack in ?Say Anything?
Yeah I'll stand outside with a boom-box high and wait for her to sing

I?m starting to find out its hard to start anew when you?ve got nowhere to go
Nowhere to rest your tired bones, nowhere to call your own
And well I?m walking and I?m talking but I ain?t getting anywhere, and I sure as hell ain?t getting very far
Cause this heavy heart just don?t fit inside the backseat of a hatch-back car

In my travels, I?ve stumbled across an old friendly hill
Where my Lily and I first placed our hearts and watched them beat so still
So I laid my head upon rocks by the restless rolling streams
And dreamed of a thousand Lilies in the sky raining over me

Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah with a gasp
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, my love has come home at last
