again, sorry for the long absence...nice to see the familiar faces and some new ones, too much to comment on but I'm enjoying the reads...this one was originally inspired by a viewing of Terrence Malick's film The New World, but then devolved into a vague critique of modern American culture...an oversimplification, of course...kudos to anyone who spots my subconsciously-placed and slurred Einstein reference...

MISS’D FORTUNE

primordial pursuits
ferment forbodin’ fruits
cut throat cultures
see saw ‘cross vultures
parlay the land into hyphened handstands
and turn the cornfield on its ear

a weak-knee’d to know basis
forlorned green faces
fresh off the botox
and onto the streets
for a snicker-jape parade
above the rubble
float cartoon bubbles
tethered to ransomed handsome waves
of engrained purple founts of travesty
what a difference a holiday makes
fireworks its wonders and never fails
to captivate the police state
of grace to say before we eat
the roadkill that provides the meat
is murder and what isn’t here and now
emcees declare it’s all relative
kissin’ cousins cause fussin’
and nonplussed dust-ups
before the king of cups
distressed he’s not bedecked with clubs
tarot a page and rename the knaves
tomorrow is tomorrow
and not yet today.

As always with the majority of your work there’s a rather choppy rhythm off set by your usual melting pot of woven imagery.

The Einstein reference seemed a little crude to me considering that it was far more geared towards the Hip Hop culture prevalent in contemporary American culture. Although in saying that I enjoyed it and even though you concentrated heavily on the more aesthetic side of things I can’t help but wonder that you could have let the whip crack that little longer both in terms of scope and depth.

Great stuff all the same though and I hope you make a full return.

Very good writing, Laz.

Yes, tomorrow is tomorrow..
a diversion from today....
yet when the dawn breaks
a new day begins...or does it?

Miss'd Fortune...a good title.

{glad to see you back, I have been reading much lately as well....thinking about the fellowship of the ring...as I try to use each day well}.
