for eileen and christine:

flood walls
-----------
always looked so high and mighty
i was curious about what was held back
but that was since the day
and the walls are still that

when i was young
i knew there'd be one day
again - or at least i hoped again
now i stand behind the walls
with my neck arched to the sky
barely visible was the top of the divide

remembered how they looked invincible
i was graced by the curious unknown of the other side
that was since the day i felt clean
the walls contained water that gleamed

when i was young
i knew there'd be that day
because i found it, that's how
this time i could forget what i left
as i sit almost touching the heavens
my heart feeling no pain, perhaps from the height
i broke the walls regardless, and rolled with my tide

A very simple poem from me. I finally just had the urge to write after overdosing on The Bends this past week. This idea of finally seeing what was hidden, and then running with it was inspired by O2 and Sicy. So, sedate as it may be, this is my appreciation. Thanks for opening up different frames of mind. - matt

Thanks death bear, i really appreciate it. Those are my words, and thanks for the compliment. Honestly, i think it's not as strong as it could be, but i kept it as is cause i was so inspired by listening to The Bends so much. I kept the poem in its original form as i was listening to the cd and felt totally sublime.
