a sea of fossils
A lifetime is crumpling on the horizon,
like the sticky shell of a pearl
bleeding its thin milk into the heat,
drowning swarms of spindly horses
that vibrate in shades of blue.

A forgotten impulse was found
suddenly, and is wandering through
the exhaust of apathetic gardens,
exhuming flowers along the way,
stirring up drifts of bleached insects.

Birdsongs are embedded in growing
plumes of drowsy lovemaking.
Bees are in their hive staring
out at those quiet blue meadows
all a-shimmer with excited sperm.

As these porous cathedrals revolve
around me, as animated bundles
of laughing molecules receive the signals
that tune the summer to busy,
I see nothing staring back at me.

I can?t help but be a part
of this chain reaction of a billion years.
I can?t help but see
the glare of indifference on the leaves.

I am just a bubble, a perfect pearl
that can only be carried along, waiting
to pop like everything else,
in the sunny froth of summer.

What, NO ASTRONAUTS?!

Sorry, couldn't resist

This reminds of me of your other poem where the billion blue goldfish were sedated on the horizon. Definitely poetry of a hot climate. Very evocative, it's great--I can feel the heat

A place that has to be believed to be seen...

trav, that's outrageously incredible

I don't know what to say, I love the way you put words, thoughts, and ideas together that you'd never dream of seeing alongside each other ..and the way you weave an altogether different image out of it

really, I'm totally amazed

spectacular!

wow, that's some incredible imagery and you avoid cliches with some wild metaphors, and it ends perfectly, well thought out poetry travu2

For the eyeing of my scars, there is a charge
For the hearing of my heart---
It really goes.

And there is a charge, a very large charge
For a word or a touch
Or a bit of blood

Wow, you make me feel like a zit. A few years ago I'd tried to write about my sexual tensions, but quit out of frustration.

You did it! I like it.

Wow, that is incredibly beautiful! I agree with what everyone said... except bicyclingfish

(that's one topic I've never tackled)
I especially love the first stanza/verse/bit/thing... that's the sort of thing I'd consider getting tattooed on me...
Absolutely gorgeous... I don't want to gush or anything, but we're still in the depths of winter down here and that poem made me feel like it was 35 C and the middle of February... *aaah*
Brilliant original stuff mate
