"Falter"

ugly angels and blood-stained doves
are not so pretty and peaceful in still life
they don't even pretend like your eyes
so why is their message so brittle to your ears?
they are trying to climb
others are like them
you can see them falling
poor little stars sink back to earth
where are they going in this weather?
will you help me carry them to shelter,
or at least put them back in the sky?

children? hmmm... could be, anything that "falters" or falls from grace or good fortune, though not neccessarily through any fault of their own... this certainly can be applied to children

that just reminded me of little children living in poverty and trying to climb out of it when they're never even given a chance...
so I guess we were thinking along the same lines
