I thought about this driving to work early this morning:

Driving

Driving down the highway
looking thru the windows
I see an image of a person
dressed all in black
the moon appears as the
dawn breaks the moment
yet somehow it’s a mystery
of what I truly see
sense a strangeness so bitter
I can almost taste the air.

The cell phone rings a message
it’s a 9-11 time
no one had a watch
so the enemy had filtered thru
and except for the sound of gunfire
it was too late to stop
the bloodshed and death.

Driving down the highway
looking thru the windows
I see it clearly now.

Perhaps it is just because I woke up at 12 am, but there is an intriguing distance in the poem.

It's 9-11 time....

The phrase that will forever define the answer to "What big things happened in your life so far?". It has never "directly" affecte me, but it would be false to say that it was not turning point in world history... or at least a visible marker of such a thing.

Well the writing had a distance to it....I often reflect the World especially when I drive. This one I realized dealt with the war in Iraq......a suicide bombing on a passing car witnessed by a soldier perhaps driving by or near the scene.

Where the 9-11 came from...the other day I received a cell phone message and I found it strange the time was 9:11. I did not really refer to the 9/11 date but instead just the 911 concept of emergency.

Thanks for your thoughts.
