even NJ loves NY
You crawl deeper into yourself
Retreating
For a moment
Pausing and pulling together
The ebbing tides of your
Violent courage, desire.
Waiting, crouched
Gathering the power of
A bleeding will as your
Nails bite the cold background
Of your dreams like claws.

Anticipation every muscle
Primed to explode
An echoing crack
Resonates through every fiber
Of your deprived ego
And with angry pride flaring
Your determination
Feeds the fire of chance
As all boundaries are
Blown into dust
And your soul cries
For what you can now have.

It isn't the solid, dead weight
In your palm
Or the flash of gold reflecting
The brightness of reality
That calls your seducted mind
To crash through
The frozen barriers of ability
And pull your gasping body in
After it.

It is the glimmer of impossible
Possibility
That perhaps you can
Elevate your tired being
To new adrenal heights and
Balance on the peak of
Supremacy, if only for a
Second before you
Fall
With nothing to stop you
And only your patient, tantalized
Desire to start you over again.

Now I know I'm not OK...I'm getting poetic about sports

"You got to cry without weeping
Talk without speaking
Scream without raising your voice..."

hmmmm... I wouldn't have guesses that was about sports if you hadn't told us

but actually, it could be about a lot of different things

BabyGrace, aren't you too young to be writing poetry this good?

The ebbing tides of your
Violent courage, desire.
Waiting, crouched
Gathering the power of
A bleeding will as your
Nails bite the cold background
Of your dreams like claws.

of course, since this is about sports, this must be about your favourite hockey team, the New Jersey Devils

I thought this was about dancing, BabyGrace! Same difference I guess. Oh, well. Even if it isn't about dance- that's what I get out of it. Thanks for this poem.

you've never been hurt,

one's watching.**

Thanks guys...actually, it was about swimming because that's what I do but all sports are the same...dancing, too

It could be interpreted about something VERY different from sports too though

err...Wanderer, sorry no Devils!! um...are you implying that young people aren't good??

I was implying that you're really 53 years old, now fess up!!!

anyway, the fact that it can be interpreted in differenct ways makes it even more impressive

dressed up like a lovely day

What a vivid, dynamic poem BabyGrace. You have quite a talent for verse

Striking and beautifully articulate. I love the intensity of the line: "The ebbing tides of your
Violent courage"

------------------
"Uncertainty can be a guiding light"
