when the time isn't right

sometimes it feels miles away
when love doesn't hold sway in you
pictures in grey
all that's left, of a life I wish I could get back into

the leaves still fall
the ground still gives way
I can still crawl
if you can still smile in the rain

walking to your house
I hope it's a path, I can take again
never long enough
for me to stand in that doorway

the sound of the world ringing in my ears
the silence of your bed
the longing of these years
the touch of those loving tears.

no happy ending
because nothing ever ends
it's just the time
that makes it seem like goodbye


If I had a chance
I'd sleep tonight
we'll find it again
and let the holy spirit make it right
