Mercy Plea
Sometimes I shrink away from the sun's touch
Feeling his fingers too hot to bare
Wanting to break away from his clutch
Longing to escape his righteous glare
Sometimes I fantasize about running away
Just escaping into the head lit haze
When flashlights have replaced the lamp of day
Then only the stars and moon can face my gaze
I know its fancy, my foolish desires
The sun must awaken, the stars dance must cease
But my scarlet dress is afraid that the fires
Will burn away its threads and leave not one piece
Great sun, Have mercy on your shadowed child
Please let your gazing rays be soft and mild.
