As many of you know I"m a nurse... well I had a patient today that really truly broke my heart, it makes me so sad just thinking about him again.

I work in Boston at a world reknowned eye/ear hospital... so it's not uncommon to get celebrities and wealthy people in here. Last night I got an admission from the ER. It was a 19 year old patient who was just signed to a major league baseball team ( i cant go into details). He's from the Dominican Republic. He was down there at the training camp - and during a drill he got nailed in the face with a baseball. He fractured his face ruptured his left eye, and as a result is having his eye removed today - there's no saving it. His baseball career is over. I just feel so badly, I can only imagine how hard he worked to get where he was today - only to have it taken away that quickly.

That poor guy. Talk about a shattered dream. My heart goes out to him.

What do you even SAY to a patient like this? I mean, no one can pretend that they know what he's going through. What can someone say to 'make it all better????'
