I hated swim lessons as a kid. I don't even know why I did. I think it was a companation of my fear of the instrucot (beast of a woman) and an overall dislike for the water. My mom forced me to go though. Oddly enough though I joined the high school swim team and am one of the faster swimmers on it

I didn't learn to swim as a child and now I really regret it. I was even looking into taking them this month, but the class is full.

I've always been humiliated by my inability to swim. I blame my mother but that's another story. I have access to a nice pool now though so I'm psychologically preparing myself for lessons now that I can no longer use the "but I live in the desert" excuse after beli's story. :reject:

My 4 year old son has trememdous anxiety in the water. I still make him take lessons.
Swimming can take years to learn. But it's part of growing up.

Goodluck on swimming lessons joyfulgirl!

You shouldn't feel humiliated at all joyful

Dawn Fraser (an ex Australian Olympic swimmer) hadn't even gone IN the water til her teens. Her inability never held her back!
Good luck!
