i've decided that car salesmen are no longer the scum of the earth, but rather health care providers.

i desperately needed a medical procedure done, had many-a-doctors and specialists backing me, and the dirty fuckers at blue cross blue shield wouldn't cover a penny!

i had to pay 5-fucking-thousand dollars out of my own pocket.

i fucking hate insurance companies with a passion.

i'm moving to a fucking social-democratic country.

When I requested a simple penis-reduction surgery I was refused

I'm not too thrilled with mine at the moment either...I've been waiting for a medically necessary surgery since early June...they can't fit me in until Oct 18th. I will have waited almost 5 months by the time its done. That's just wrong.

well, hypothetically speaking, if you were to lose three limbs in a freak accident, all you would have to do is take several pictures and submit them to your insurance company, have about 20-30 specialists confirm that you did in fact lose all three limbs, get on your hands and knees and plead to your insurance carrier (oh wait, oops, i don't think that'd be an option considering the cirucumstances), be patient and wait it out for about 9-18 months (remember to focus on the pressure points all the while), and then i'm almost positive you'd get the proper medical attention you require. see, it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

I don?t know, we don?t have waiting lists in that sense..., sure you have to wait at a doctor because there are other people who have appointments with him too, and sometimes you have to wait at the ambulance because other cases are more serious, but I have never waited more then some hours.

Anyway, be secured that a public health system eats money like a whale... I think its worth it, but I doubt others think so until its their a**es.

I also know of public health systems in Europe that don?t function that well; in italy, f.e., you can wait a few months too (and Berlusconi has enough private doctors).

Well, its supposed work that way. If you have private health insurance that lets you choose your own doctor, it usually works fine. You may need prior authorization for a surgery or diagnostic test but you can usually see a doctor anytime you need one.

However, with an HMO, you must see a doctor within their network. My particular HMO has its own hospitals and clinics and the wait time for an appointment can be weeks or months, depending on what you are being seen for. Same day appointments are easy to get if you are very sick but the wait for a surgery in a non-life threating situation can be months.

I've never had a problem getting appointments for my kids, which I'm very happy about. If they are sick, I can usually get an appointment within 24 hours.

So, I guess there is good and bad with private insurance.
