Ashamed

This is my first confession and I feel very, very bad about this.
Yesterday when I went off work at midnight I was by the machine to get some money to get myself home by the tram. While I'm standing there this drunk, homeless man comes up to me and he sees that I get "scared" and says he won't do anything, just ask me for money to a cup of thé at the McDonalds across the street. I got my money and just said that I was in a hurry (which I was, to not miss the last tram) and left him there and quickly walked away.
Right after that I felt so ashamed, all he asked for was a dollar for a cup of thé, I could have bought it for him (I rather do that then just give money that probably won't be used for what they said anyway).
Always when someone comes up to me asking like this I ge "scared" and very hostile and I hate myself for it and always regret it afterwards. I have enough money for a cup of thé to both of us, and his friends if so, and still I act like this. *grrr*

Not a sleezy confession but....

I promise you, it gives them a pretty surpriced look on their face and probably they won't ask you again because you didn't give them what they "asked" for, money to buy whatever they want for. LOL

lol I think you should probably do it case-by-case. If the person looks like they really do need some help, go ahead and give them some money. If they look like they just want to buy beer, don't.

My state, amazingly enough, has very few homeless people. (Which is good of course) And when I went to other more populated states (Illinois and Colorado and such) all the GA lines had homeless people begging us to give them money, and these stupid organizations came and tried to get us to donate to charities we never even heard of, and probably don't even exist. I know it sounds harsh but really, what right do they have to come and act like we are soo horrible to not donate to their "charity" and we are just there to see a concert? Argh. Sorry I got off-track, it's just annoyed me in the past.

Well I would have done the same thing. Sorry but I cant stand to see people begging for money, then at the end of the day get in their BMW and drive home.

Get a job is what I want to tell them. Why should I give my hard earned money to some bum?

I know how you think and many times I think like this too.
But I think there is a difference between USA and Sweden here. We don't have many of them, like you have. I think I can count them on my hands that are hanging around the city centre here and it's not very often someone asks for money. And most of them have ended up in this situation without wanting it and have struggled for years to get a job, a home. The problem is that you can't separate those from the bummers, as you mentioned, that haven't done anything in their entire life. So it's if it's one of those strugglers that asks me one day I feel I want to do something.

I'm too nice and naïve many times, I know, but it still bothers me that I think like I do. I should be more humble and don't think what I think about people I don't the story behind.

There is a bum who stands on the corner of a very popular off-ramp begging for money. Sometimes I get stuck on the red and either I am alone or I have another friend in my car (two 17 year olds basically). I don't like it at all and it makes me really uncomfortable. I've ben known to just go on the red if there's no cars coming. I feel terrible about it, but we are such a socialist state, there is so much aid out there just to be had.
