Am I the only person with debt and financial problems caused by the tour?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Wait, don't tell me, I know- it's not U2's fault, I didn't have to follow them to 11 shows, take too much time off work, fill up all my credit cards buying tickets from overpriced brokers, driving out of town, staying in hotels and eating at Ruby Tuesday's. It's all my fault :reject: Boy, am I paying the price at high interest rates. It has reached the point where I can't even make my minimum payments and still eat. My phone is ringing constantly. Yes so I was irresponsible, but I have a lot of cherished memories. I was just wondering if anybody else here will admit to drowning themselves in debt because of last year's tour?

11 shows? Damn.

 :combust:

Try getting a debt consolidation loan, or, if all else fails, get credit counseling. The latter, however, will adversely affect your credit, as they will charge off the portion of the loan that is negotiated away.

Don't take this the wrong way. I think you did the right thing; U2 is worth it! But, I just wanted to say that when I learned U2 was going to tour, I just saved, saved, saved! I wanted to be able to do the whole thing right and not worry about a cent (and I didn't. You don't want to know how much I spent in total!). I'm already doing the whole saving thing again. I'm also probably waaaaay older than you (I'm 39), so I've had lots of years to learn all about the evils of credit cards :)

I know it is probably really hard right now to pay them off, but just put aside every penny you can. Cut back wherever you can. And when you have finally paid them off, remember that the best thing you can do is save and pay cash. It's hard, but it's worth it!

At least you spent the money on something wonderful like U2 shows and not like on aerosol cheese and Pez. I think what melon said is good...and this will sound very parent-like (which is odd cuz I'm only 20), but...I hope you've learned from all of this.

i really believe you made a mistake, despite what some other people may say.

because your in trouble now, you must realize that you cant make mistakes like this down the road. you must learn from it, or you could find yourself in worse shape.

in the meantime, you said you took off time from work and took out loans.

now, the consequence of that decision is that you should probably find an extra part time job and pay it off as soon as possible.

this is easy for me to say, as im a staunch fiscal conservative.. :p

I saw them once the last tour
it was great
I've got more money then I'm able to spend

I seen them in slane so all i had to buy was my tickets and once was enough for me

I have no money and I need to save it all for uni in September

well I'm by no means in debt but yeah, I used to have a pretty mean savings acct and its more than half gone bc of the tour. I saw them in 4 places around the US and I, too had to go thru brokers despite my 5 am, -10* below line waiting outside the damn box offices.

And I want to do it all again , although I dont know what the future holds there. I'll definitely hit up the midwest pretty hard, maybe go to one faraway place depending on the circumstances.

but yeah. I may have been a bit more remorseful about the whole thing if i HADNT met the man. but i did. and i wouldnt trade that for all the money, houses, cars in the world.

Some of my credit cards need a shot of Viagra becuz of that damn tour..:sexywink::angry:

thank u-

Are you making your own confession here, hmmm?

Not quite...I tend to blow large sums on money on magazines and Pez...gotta have some Pez to eat while I'm readin' my mags!

I think we could all have a confession involving impulsive/compulsive behavior and credit cards.....

I attended way too many hockey games when the new local team started.

I only saw them four times and have no credit card debt, but I kind of regret it because I could've had so much more money in my savings for next year. :slant:

What's this thing called a savings account you people all speak of? :crack:

Well... you could look at my financial situation in one of two ways... The amount of all that I owe equals exactly:

1) The cost of my tuition for the program I have been in the last two years....

or

2) The cost of my trip to London, Ireland, Vegas and the four concert tickets etc..........

I choose to believe that I just owe school money (option #1 ) but had a real kick ass year in 2001! :D

I just paid off my last credit card that had U2 tour related expenses on it...it took over a year but it was worth every single penny, including interest :)

If I had it to do again, I would have gone to more than 3 shows but probably would have tried to pay cash when possible.

I saw them 5 times and would do it again. Yes, that money could definitely be used presently on other expenses, however I had amazing experiences at the shows. I just watched the walk on brazil video online and got that warm, fuzzy u2 feeling that I haven't had in a long while...it reminded me how much I loved being at those shows and how much i really do value the experience. I probably wouldn't spend so much on u2 that I'd be in debt - well not debt that would take me lots of time to pay off - but I'm willing to splurge to get that euphoria that money can't buy.

You can give me the money. That'll make you feel good about yourself and give you that warm, fuzzy, Meggie-is-happy feeling that money can buy.

Yeah, I spent waaaaay too much this semester, but I wasn't really hurting until this summer...probably because of my spring break trip to London. During August I was so broke that I couldn't afford groceries for a while...so my boss took me shopping!! She's the coolest!!

well, that money is currently scattered at toll booths & dairy queens all along the east coast and such, but you'll get your gifts, no worries...

I went 6 times this last tour, and although it wasn't quite as expensive as my Popmart and ZooTv sojourns to Europe, I spent exorbitant amounts of money, (especially on that trip to Vegas!) and would have spent much more if my husband hadn't forced me to stay home.

I say it was worth every penny!! You just never know if the U2 show you are seeing will be your last, and each show is a treasure unto itself. Debts can wait, U2 can't.

That said, I am now trying to figure out how to prioritize between my house renovation projects vs saving for the next tour!

I understand the advice some of you are giving is good, but unfortunately for me saving was not an option, with my pay it would never have been enough. I identify with the person who said "what's a savings account?" I live paycheck to paycheck and my parents are totally unsupportive of my pursuit of stuff like tours. Even though I am going under, I have a lot of special memories. I only hope I will be able to get another card when the next tour comes around, but I will probably have to only go to one or two shows but I will feel lucky to have any after this! :uhoh:
