Texas is a desert?

OK it may not be a dessert but when I've seen it on TV and films the ground and vegetation looks barren, dry and shrub like. Plus you hardly see anyone dressed up in anything heavier than a light jacket.

Actually, we get about one good snow per winter. Last year, we got 2 good snows.

Those were evidently not filmed in East Texas. East Texas has some very beautiful places.
