I've Been on Interference So Long...

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

I remember when we thought the Morrissey thread was going to be the biggest Redhill contender in the Best Thread in the History of Interference competition.

We need to do a new one later this year.

...I remember the Slow Loris.
...I spoke with Fake Edge.
...Huge pics on PLEBA took, like, 5 minutes to download because I still had 56k dialup internet.

I remember redhill's flame out where he called everyone that disagreed with him "trolls".

I'm pretty sure Axver of all people was referred to as a blind sheep if memory serves me correct. It was a long time ago so my memory is fuzzy.

It still feels relevant to me!

It feels so relevant, that we should really put new threads on ice for a minute, just to really think about it one more time before starting them, just to make sure that it's really was what we want to say. We can do both. We can really celebrate that old thread, which is really born again in this context, and we can also really get a chance to think about these new threads and make sure they're really what we want to start.

I remember I just was not woke enough.

Out of curiousity, is there anyone left here who joined before me? Are there any May 2000ers?

i just learned that you can advanced-search the member list using a "join date before" parameter.

on june 1 2000, there were 12 members.

on july 1 2000, there were 244 members.

by new year's day 2001 there were 1,765 members.

a year later on jan 1 2002 it was up to 5,589.

mildly interesting :hmm:

in terms of who's still active on here, mrpryck2u is the oldest (registered 6/16/00, four days before david, six days before you). kind of a trip looking at the list of 00s and seeing old names like michael griffiths and skeek.

Wow, that's crazy! I can faintly remember being reasonably new to the internet back then and when I got my own computer, my first search was U2 and this was one of the first sites that came up. I also registered at @U2, but at some point their message board was hacked by these Ted Nugent gun loving psychos and they bombarded the message board with scat porn of all things. After that, The Blue Crack became my primary U2 home. I've never meant anyone here in real life, but Sicy was one of my first internet U2 friends. I think sometime in 2002 or so, we actually talked on the phone once. I wonder if she remembers that. Lol! From roughly 2000-2005, my posting was sporadic, but from 2006 to now, I've been a steady poster. This is the only place where I use my MrPryck2U moniker. I'm also known as dude11767. A little more family friendly, ya think?

If I recall Alisaura's explanation correctly, Interference had a forum in the late nineties but there was some sort of forum upgrade or website crash in 2000, after which everybody's old registration dates disappeared. Hence, nobody has a pre-2000 registration date. Any other old timers recall this?

Who you calling old?

I definitely be remember being a part of this in college, which I started in 1998. I remember the etch a Sketch and all that stuff. I don't recall any one event, but my "join date" is listed as July 2000, so something had to have happened.

Yes. I have always remembered re-registering after some kind of crash occurred.

But it was a pretty sporadically used board back then, IIRC.

I'd bet the registering spike occurred when the clip of Beautiful Day was put on the front page.

I was looking at the Wayback Machine. The site changed from the ancient format to the beginnings of Blue Crack between Apr and Oct 1999.

October 1999 did not have a forum link but had the initial Blue design. No screen captures between Apr and Oct.

So it was probably a short lived forum that popped up after the redesign and then was lost when it was revamped?

I'll admit I was drunk most the time back then. But I do remember re-registering. Maybe it was only part of the old timeline. Pesky time travel.
