Interesting. I agree we tend to start counting at 1, but that's when we count with our fingers. There's a bunch of numbers inbetween 0 and 1, and they do have value. Don't we start counting years of our life at the time of birth?

Yes we do, but when we are born we don't say we are 0 years old.

I understand what others are saying, but Jive Turkey explained it better than I could. What I mean is if we want to be technical, the next decade does not start this January but the next. The very first decade was 1 A.D. to 10 A.D. and the second decade was 11 A.D. to 20 A.D. so on and so forth.

we do consider the weeks and months beyond that to be of value though (at least the clothing stores do!) so, since these numbers between 0 and 1 have value, i think 0 only doesn't have a value for that day.

like, 0 doesn't have a value, but 0.1 does. you know what i mean?

I know what you mean, but is 0.1 reflected on a calendar? I dunno, I see what you're saying.

Indeed. Earthworm poop. Do worms and bugs and shit get into modern day caskets after they've been buried?

Another way to think of the whole discussion (though I cant believe there are some who still might not get it.....there arent, are there?) is that, when you refer, in past tense, to the first year of your life, how old were you then? The first year of your life, you were 1 day old to 364 days old. Yet you still refer to that as the first year of your life (year 1). You were at no point, 1 year old in the first year of your life

The 00s end at the end of this December, imho.

But isn't this talk ALL premature? We can't confidently close the book on a decade until it is in the past. I'm sure the good folks of Year 0 were quite confidently sitting around discussing how they were in the middle of decade whatever and how great Caesar was. Then Jesus starting developing and turning tricks and soon the numbering all went to hell.
When did the Year 0 people have to eat their words and realize that they weren't in the middle of some other decade, they were starting modern times?
Jesus could be returning as a baby right now and then where will our decade numbering be? All of us folks who will be left behind will probably start over at 0 again. I know I will.

Not to mention there are a bunch of Mayans sitting around laughing at those who still refer to "the next decade." 2012 bitches!
