we used to have hot mushy peas in little polystyrene pots topped with mint sauce, at fairs and things... but they are definitely best with fish and chips and lots of vinegar - it's one of the things i miss most about Blighty now i live in France - i would take fish and chips as a nice foodie treat over French cuisine any day haha

here's a piccie i just googled

What do you all get from Jimmy John's that you like so much?
I've tried it a couple of times and haven't been very impressed--not bad, just kind of meh.

I've been a vegetarian for over 20 years so for me to go into a fast food place and find something that I can eat without recreating a menu is great. It's become a lot more common in recent years to have at least one veggie option on a menu but for years my only choice for a quick lunch was Subway.

Jimmy Johns has a delightful veggie sub on the menu and also jalapeno chips

It doesn't take much to get me all excited about a sandwich.

I get the ham and cheese one (hold the lettuce, please). The bread is fantastic, which goes a long way.

Also, cheap. And amazing pickles.

Hunter's Club -
Double roast beef, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, provolone
/adj. e-z mayo, add onions
Bootlegger Club -
Half roast beef, half turkey, lettuce, tomato, mayo, provolone
/adj. e-z mayo, add onions
Beach Club -
Double turkey, avocado spread, sliced cucumber, sprouts, lettuce, tomato, mayo, provolone
/adj. e-z mayo, add onions + oil/vinegar, remove cucumbers + sprouts

Always one of the three, with salt and vinegar chips. Always a win.

Have you tried Davanni's or Pizza Luce's veggie subs?:drool::drool:

I'll give Jimmy John's another try.
I seem to remember they had good cookies.

I am a Potbelly and Subway guy. (Not to mention Riverview Cafe's Special Sandwich. )

I like Subway just fine, but I think both Quizno's and Jimmy John's are miles better.

There used to be two Quizno's near my neighborhood, but they both closed, and now I'm a sad panda. :(

oh yeah....I don't go to Davanni's too often but I do go to Pizza Luce's quite a bit now that there's one in SLP. I like Potbelly and Quiznos too if I'm in the mood for a toasted sandwich but I think JJ's is just my favorite. I've tried Erbert's and Gerbert's, which is the exact same ingredients on their veggie sub as JJ's but it's really not as tasty :tsk:

never been to Riverview....just googled it and no wonder. I'm never in that neck of the woods. My friend keeps talking about going to Bewitched (downtown on Washington) because they are supposed to have a really great lunch menu too.

Blah! Quizno's always manages to be either too expensive, bad, or not filling enough.

Subway, not a huge fan although I wont say no. It's just eh. Good enough.

Jimmy John's is on another level though.

Almost a 'classy' fast food, up with Moe's, Chipotle, and places like that :D

i like subway. i like being able to see what my options for sandwich ingredients are, and it's pretty much the only fast food sandwich place outside of a real deli where they don't give you a hard time for listing off whatever you want on a sandwich. no "what do you mean you don't want the mayo?" and still putting the funky dill-something mayo on the sandwich despite your argument against it. d'angelo's isn't bad, but they're too expensive for having very few things that are really awesome. plus i swear they're incredibly inconsistent. you would think that a chicken stirfry sub at a chain would vaguely resemble the chicken stirfry sub at another one of the same chain just a couple towns over, but no....we have no more quiznos around here (and didn't like them much when we did, see the mayo rant above), and i've never heard of this jimmy john character. nor have i seen sprouts ANYWHERE in a long time.

however, for $4.75 i can get an awesome turkey/lettuce/tomato/mustard/hot peppers grinder twice the size of a subway footlong at a local deli.

Indeed, Jimmy Johns are sandwiches done RIGHT!

That being said I was so upset the other day when I decided to get Pita Pit instead. Pits Pit is awful.

wait a minute, a pita pit is actually real? i thought my brother made that up. he isn't a fan, either.

yeah, i love subway. their meatball sub is awesome. plus like iwb said they don't act all hard done by if you dare to say you don't want something on your sub. the only thing they seem gung ho about is the lettuce, which is fine with me as i get it on my sub anyway (the only veggie actually, i hate raw veggies unless it's lettuce or spinach).

i love quiznos but there's none here (obvs) and even back home, they're hard to find. and i fucking love their french dressing. no one ever has it (i'm still five and it's the only dressing i like) so i like that they have it.

I love Maccas too, but it has to be good maccas. Bad maccas is truly disgusting.

I never used to eat kebabs either until I had one at this place down main st. Truly fucking delicious. If they moved down the street next to the nightclub and were open at 4am Friday, sat & sun mornings they'd make a killing.

I don't know why I didn't post in this thread before.

i don't get how tomato sauce rhymes with dead horse. the tomato part more than the sauce.

i also don't see how a buffalo chicken sub at subway is 7 bucks here, but you can get the oven roasted chicken breast, tell them to put hot sauce, ranch, and whatever veggies you might want on either of those sandwiches, and it's essentially the same thing for 2 bucks less. nevermind that i've been getting that since long before they came up with actually putting the buffalo chicken one on the menu.

Yeah only sauce & horse rhyme. We take a lot of liberties here

My favourite subway is foot long white bread, chicken strips, cheddar cheese, lettuce and mayo. Bon appetit

At Subway I get a turkey on wheat with lots of all of the veggies except onions and jalapenos. Healthy and
(I do get mayo on it, but I skip cheese. Often I'll get double meat, too.)

I like the Italian BMT at Subway with peppers, onions, and black olives. No lettuce or tomato (blah). I also like the Black Forest Ham with the same veggies or the Chicken Teriyaki with cucumbers.

I haven't been to Quizno's since I was in Norman, OK to see U2 and I was too excited to eat much, so I just picked something and tried to choke it down. U2 and their police escort went by the restaurant while we were there, and then I was really excited. And it didn't help that the people with me were taking their sweet time, and I was flipping out and saying, "This is no time for eating!!! Let's go!!!" So whenever someone mentions Quizno's I think of U2.

I made a chocolate cake the other night.

It's Duncan Hines Dark Chocolate Fudge from a box. I added two tablespoons of instant coffee to the batter; that gives it some bonus subtle flavor and makes it extra dark. I also made the ice cream.

Lunch today  I would have gone there anyways even with out all the Jimmy Johns talk since I usually go on Mondays on my day off while running around town. Veggie sub (provolone, tomato, guac, mayo, and lettuce) with no sprouts  I usually tell them to hold the mayo but I forgot :grumpy:

and for later...Coconut!

you can replace the water all together and just use coffee...or guinness  Or if you want it to be extra moist you can just use milk. I never use water for a box mix.

That looks :drool::drool::drool:

How much more black?
None. None more black.

:hmm: I'll have to try it with milk next time. That's a good idea! Chocolate Guinness cake, though…? I've never had Guinness, so I don't know if I'd like that or not, but it sounds interesting!
