I've been devouring celery dipped in roasted red pepper hummus--smoky+crunchy.


I understand why people don't like it. The taste can vary greatly (from fresh to sour/bitter). And, even I find the strings annoying sometimes.

peanut butter, yes, although i'm pretty sure i haven't eaten that since i was 5. celery is more awesome with the blue cheese sauce or excess bbq sauce with wings.

I was never given "ants on a log" as a snack in pre-school or anything. That's really just fine with me.

Celery with hummus is a nice "adult" change from peanut butter. (Since it has a similar smoky/nutty taste as PB)

I try it every now and again to see if my tastes have miraculously changed, but nope. Not so far.

It doesn't bother me that much if it's cooked very well and has lost all its crunch, like in a soup or stew, but I still prefer not to eat it.

I like celery cooked if it's in a soup or or a stir fry. If it's raw, I try to only eat skinny pieces and it has to have something on it (like peanut butter); the bigger pieces are bitter, like from the bottom of the stalk where it starts to turn white.

i marinate the beef in an oriental honey (yeah i dunno, that's its name) marinade for a bit and then also add a little sweet and sour sauce at the tail end of cooking.

That sounds good! I usually use sweet chili sauce and soy sauce.

i agree. i only like peanut butter on bread items (crackers, etc.)

they do not have Jimmy Johns in Phoenix and I was greatly annoyed when I moved there. None of my friends or coworkers there had ever heard of it before. There's plenty of other sandwich places to go but every so often I would be craving Jimmy Johns and was stuck getting something that wasn't quite the same. I even made it a point to go to Jimmy Johns on my visits home! But now I'm back in Minnesota so I can go whenever I want....which is usually every Monday on my day off when I'm out running errands.
