I am looking to apply for an overseas trainee program that only allows students that have a 2:1 average. As an American, I have no idea what that means. Can someone explain how Brits grade their students?

I checked that website and while it gave me some idea, it still didn't say what a 2:1 equals in the States.

Generally, a 2:1 would be about a 3.5, but there's really no standard method of comparison, apart from NARIC, who you can pay to translate your qualifications. Each programme/university sets its own minimum requirements for international applicants. Have you contacted them directly to ask?

I did, but they couldn't give me an answer. They told me to check with my school's career advisor, which I would.

Thanks for the help everyone!
