From MSNBC

“This is not something that's going to drag out for months,” Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) told reporters on Tuesday evening. “It is going to be expeditious. It's going to be quick, it has the speaker's full support, it has the Intel Committee’s and Chairman's full support, and it is literally about impeachment. It is not about any other options.”

In a closed-door caucus meeting on Tuesday afternoon, Pelosi explained to her caucus that the recent revelations about Trump’s contact with the Ukrainian government—in which he reportedly urged its president, Volodymyr Zelensky, to open a dormant investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden—constituted a national security threat. And she made it clear that time was of the essence.

“Right now, we have to strike while the iron is hot,” Pelosi told Democrats, according to a senior Democratic aide. “This is a national security issue – a national security issue, and we cannot let him think that this is a casual thing, so that’s where I’m at.”

Trump's foray into the Ukraine business is typically dumb especially because Biden is perfectly capable of digging a hole and incriminating himself. Total brain genius that Trump.

And imagine if he’s not even the D candidate in the end. LOL

Is anyone a little concerned that the Dems will find a way to screw up impeachment ? Sounds like they’re focused on only the Ukraine issue, and will let all the Mueller obstruction, collusion, and emoluments pass

I’ve heard it’s due to that stuff being too complicated or boring for the public to follow.

This whistleblower deal better be worse than all the others combined.

White House is already spinning it with their “own” version of the complaint

I actually think this is the way to go. They didn't start impeachment inquiry after the Mueller Report, so it would seem sort of... off... to throw it all in now.

Second - Think about the Mueller report and what followed. It was 500 pages. It contained this sort of double negative speak about why the president wasn't criminally charged, and to the low info voter/American (which is the large majority) they listened to the sound bites and the lies from Barr and they accepted it.

the report was very broad, had so much information, yet didn't land with the punch it should have because of Barr.

Now they have this single, clean, concise incident. It is in a nutshell exactly what Trump did with Russia (in a way), except it being drawn out over years, with a ton of other campaign lackies doing the legwork, it was Trump himself. Who reached out proactively to do this. It wasn't just "accepting" help from a foreign power that offered it. It was requesting it.

So to bring back all the old stuff just prolongs this and turns it into Trumps favor. To focus it on this one thing and strike quickly is what is now necessary.

On a side note:

Warren has now taken the lead in the latest national poll. As i said before, if Biden ever loses the lead, it is over for him.

Warren has worked her ass off and run such a great campaign, she deserves this. I have my concerns about the general with her, but I think when the whole public really gets to see and hear her, she only has room to grow.

Now if it is Warren - who should be the running mate?
Very tricky.
I would hate for it to be Bernie. I think the double ticket of white older, easily labeled socialists would be a bad idea.

Lets be real. Warren needs help bringing in and engaging minority voters, especially African Americans.
So Harris or Abrams. - both great choices and i'd love it, but do worry a double female ticket would be more difficult (this is not my personal feeling, but just know that the general conservative leaning independent or Rep moderate or even moderate Dem males still have trouble with women in power)

Maybe Castro.

Booker is there, but please god no for him. I have just had enough of him and really hope he goes away soon.

Any other ideas?

There is no way you can have a Democratic ticket with a combined age of 150+. No way would it be Bernie.

I kind of like Buttigieg to be honest. But strategically there are arguments for others like Booker.

oooohhh I forgot about Pete! Interesting. Could be good, he has a very loyal following and has risen in these latest polls as well. but yeah, could be tough gaining minority support there as well...

Abrams could give a real shot at GA, I would think would lock in NC. And would hopefully connect well enough with minority voters in PA, MI, and WI to make this a done deal.
She is an incredible speaker and a moving figure.

I think Pete and Abrams are probably top of the list.

Transcript released: (to be clear NOT a full transcript, but a MEMO of the call"

It is definitely more damning than i expected...

"I would like to ask you to do us a favor. I would like you to find out what happened with Crowdstrike...

I heard you had a very good prosecuter and what happened to him was very unfair. Whatever you can do with our AG would be great. Biden stopped the prosecution and was involved, and bragged about it, sounds horrible to me.etc...

I will have Guliani call and William Barr call and we will get to the bottom of it"

yikes.

And of course, they are still blocking the release of the whistleblower complaint. It must be really bad

Right off the bat - The Ukraine pres talks about how they appreciate the support (financial) of the US. How he will do whatever is necessary to keep it up, and how they are ready to buy more weapons from the US.

Then right after Trump gets to asking about having the Ukraine Pres investigate things.

I truly don't see how it gets any clearer. If this is what they are gladly handing over, then i can't imagine what the whistle blower must have.

Also, very curious.

This is 5 pages, and I challenge even the slowest reader to not finish reading this aloud in about 10 minutes.

This was a 30 minute call.

By the end of the day he’ll call this “transcript “ fake news despite being the one who released it

What's scary is that Trump actually thought the "Transcript" helped him!
Yea this is what they were willing to release instead of the whistleblower complaint, which is said to reference multiple issues and not just this phone call.

And it appears that the IG and DNI referred a criminal complaint about the president to Barr's DOJ after the whistleblower complaint, and they decline to persue it.

Barr today is back peddling because he knows this looks reeeeeally bad.

It sure does. The most stressful part in all of this will be if GOP senators will finally have enough and choose to stop supporting him. I haven't seen anything today that would suggest that will happen. So it's not only proving that DT committed a crime, but also presenting enough for the Republicans to say "enough is enough".

Well, except for Romney, who probably now has his eyes set on the 2020 Republican nomination.

pence would be the nominee pretty much by default. i don't see how the GOP could hold anything resembling an actual primary at this stage if he does get tossed (he won't).

Although i do think it is an interesting notion. I mean. Romney could really make himself a patriotic hero here.
If he turned and was in favor of the inquiry, and got a few other repubs to join him to defy the president because of the danger, in the name of national security.

I could see how he could maybe not primary the president (or Pence if he was successful in complete impeachment) this time, but would be set up as the principled, strong leader for 2024.

yep, if on day ONE we get this completely damning "memo" that the WH offered to release. Then i can't imagine what else will be unearthed, and Barr is smack in the middle of this shit.
Would be amazing if they both would go down.

First props to DaveC for the perfect Seinfeld quote.

Second,
let's list just how many different investigations Trump mentioned within 5 pages...

Hillary Clinton's emails
Biden
Biden's son
origins of the Mueller investigation
and
I believe a mention that Barr would discuss another investigation with him.

That's in the abbreviated memo that they gladly handed over. Jesus

*Rubs hands* If that's the case, then hooooh, boy. :corn:

I can easily see this scenario mentioned in one of the replies to that tweet eventually playing out:

I would suggest the following to the GOP. Go to the President, arrange a resignation....and similar to Ford, Pence pardons Trump. The fight then becomes to keep control of Senate. The States then go after Trump and he becomes the first ex-Pres to go to the Big House

Though, of course, my hope would be that Pence would leave with Trump and Trump doesn't get pardoned.

That memo is truly something. They're just stroking each other's backs like crazy here. Two bits that particular amused me-this response from Zelenskyy:

I will make sure that I surround myself with the best and most experienced people. I also wanted to ·tell you that we are friends. We are great friends and you Mr. President have. friends in our country so we can continue our strategic partnership. I also plan to surround myself with great people

Jesus Christ, he wasn't kidding when he talked about using Trump's playbook at the start of that call.

and this line from Trump:

Mr. Giuliani is a highly respected man.

LOL.

(Seriously, if Trump's going down, does this mean Giuliani and Barr can go with him? 'Cause they're sure getting mentioned an awful lot here, and then of course we all saw the WTF-ery that was Giuliani's interview last week, so...)

But yeah. Wow. That's just...truly something, that transcript. And Trump goes right on ahead and has this conversation the very day after everything with Mueller. Because he's a complete and total dumbass. God willing this is going to be the final nail in his coffin.

It will be hilarious watching Barr and Guliani and state department officials that have all groveled at his feet for the last year, get tossed under the bus as Trump tries anything to save himself.
