Battlestar Galactica is getting the props it deserves, as the thread title suggests, at the United Nations; the only problem is who is moderating it:
A 'Battlestar Galactica' panel discussion at the United Nations | The Watcher

On March 17, there will be a "Battlestar" retrospective at the U.N. in New York and a panel discussion of how the show examined issues such as "human rights, children and armed conflict, terrorism, human rights and reconciliation and dialogue among civilizations and faith," according to Sci Fi.

The "Battlestar" contingent on the panel will consist of executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick, as well as stars Mary McDonnell (who plays president Laura Roslin on the show) and Edward James Olmos (Admiral William Adama).

UN representatives on the panel are Radhika Coomaraswamy, special representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict; Craig Mokhiber, deputy director of the New York office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights; and Robert Orr, assistant secretary-general for policy planning, executive office of the Secretary-General.

The panel will be moderated by "Battlestar" fan Whoopi Goldberg.

The invitation-only panel will take place at 7 p.m. March 17 in the U.N.'s Economic and Social Council Chamber, three days before the Sci Fi show's series finale.

UPDATE: A Sci Fi representative says that the network will record the session and a transcript will be made. "Once the content becomes available, we will let the fans know," the representative said.

In a landmark event that showcased just how relevant a TV program can be, Battlestar Galactica was the prime topic of discussion at the United Nations Tuesday night in New York.

Moderator Whoopi Goldberg led the panel through two hours of discussion that touched on race relations, terrorism, gender equality and a host of other issues

In the most provocative moment of the evening, Olmos angrily declared to the audience that race and racism are illusory concepts, created by oppressors to encourage hostility toward other cultures.

Would some fuckin' body please tell Olmos and these jerks, it is just a T V show like Mork and Mindy, or something.
What is all the 'crap' talk about politics and relevance. :madwife: :shakesfist:

Mork never had to fight a fucking Cylon, man. You're talking apples and oranges. Mork = Alf, and neither of those fuckers could handle one Boomer - let a lone a Cavil, Deanna or Ellen. Shit, even Tyrol'd choke the shit out of one those bitches. Mork and Alf might be able to take out a Simon, though, which goes back to the original discussion of racism. See? All this has happened before, and will happen again.

Not seen this, but I'm a huge fan of The West Wing. Going OT slightly, but the most recent story in Heroes (season 3 part 2) has been overtly political, with scenes resembling Guantanamo Bay's detention centre, and the excuses given by those in charge to take more freedoms to protect 'society'. Thought provoking stuff.

Yes, the West Wing was politically relevant, Heroes may have stepped up its game, but I quit that show quite awhile back. I felt it got too silly, with every kind of super power being trotted out.

This new "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" is pretty solid, they have "skin jobs" and metal verses humans, plot points too.

Skin Jobs? That's taken straight from Blade Runner.
