The seven deadly sins as we know them today, aren't even listed in the Bible, they don't come from any one source in the Bible they came from a Pope. And actually they aren't really defined as Sin unless acted upon rather negative values that man can succumb to.

In fact I've never heard of any Protestant denominations that focus on them as Sins.
It's fairly evident that pride and envy aren't something you act upon; They're personality traits. And how would you display gluttony or sloth without acting on it? Or better yet, how would any of that even be immoral?

There are other commandments to cover acting upon the thought. The coveting commandment is a thought crime

I'm not sure God is as interested in controlled behavior as He is in transformed behavior. Rather than being covetous, He would rather we be generous. As Paul says in Ephesians, "He who steals must steal no longer, but must instead work so he can have something to offer those in need."

Of course you can. People act on vanity and jealousy all the time.

I think about sloth every Saturday morning, but don't act on it. Like I said, many not all.

Although one could argue that it's immoral to not act on a social issue or to purposely put yourself in physical harm.

.
Sure, but it's manifested in other sins. Stealing, hurting, etc. It's silly to argue that these sins aren't meant as feeling about ones self

Well that's pretty much what I was saying earlier about not really being sins but negative values.

Fair enough, but they are labelled sins so I was discussing them as such

I'm pretty sure that what religious people call the sin of pride is properly understood as hubris. Now it may or may not be a sin and that may or may not be meaningful depending on one's outlook, but hubris indeed does come before a fall.

I refuse to believe that an author who so properly worded the commandment not to "bear false witness against thou neighbor" (which is one of the few commandments I think we should value) would have such a tough time figuring out a way to word that commandment unless A) he truly meant it to be a thoughtcrime or B) the commandments were pieced together from multiple sources, i.e. not one God.

Sin starts in the heart, doesn't it? And it's the heart that ultimately needs changing...
