At least it's not MTV.

Does anybody remember that Live 8 debacle?
Not so much U2, because they showed quite a bit of U2 (the opened the show) but cutting off Pink Floyd, cutting off....well everyone and cutting to their VJ hacks?
WOW.

Interference (and everywhere else) was not pleased.
MTV then showed the whole thing unedited the next week.
BIG UP to bitchy protests.

I think HBO is airing it live (followed by replays of it). There shouldn't be any editing on their part, at least not during the live broadcast.

I'm so glad you said that. I set the DVR for the replay tomorrow night because I didn't think they were airing it live and was planning to go to a matinee after the gym. Now my ass is going to be in front of the TV at 12:30 Mountain time with a latte and a big fat red chile breakfast burrito.

This thing is costing over

150 million dollars !!!

that is 4 times as much as any other inauguration !

guess what ?

it's a bargain

because it is at least 10 times better

than any other inauguration

i was there. it was cold. it was also hard to see, because it was staged entirely for television. bruce wasn't so good, sadly. garth brooks and john mellencamp were great with the crowd. "pride" was okay, "cobl' was terrific.

i was gald to be there. i stood on the very north edge of the reflecting pool. if you look closely, you might see me and Memphis.

Garth proves its the song not the singer, sure American Pie and Shout, got the crowd going

as for Springsteen, not as big of a fan as I was in the 70s and 80s
but his part tonight, that may not have reached you
was something very special, to bring out a 90 year old Pete Seeger, a true lefty that was black listed during the McCarthy era, and sing all the verses (including the socialist ones) of Woody Guthries This Land is Your Land.

You wanted a rock show

you got a piece of history.

Bruce not good?! He was damn good on my TV set. I loved both performances. I got chills with the choir on The Rising (of course, it was the beginning of the show, I was all misty-eyed already, I would have liked anybody doing anything) and I sang along with every verse of This Land is Your Land.

I sang along with ol' Garth.

I sang the freaking Pink Houses.

I looked for Irvine & Memphis.

I listened to all the speeches and quotes, got all patriotic.

I pumped my fist in the air during Pride.

I was a happy mess, lol.

bruce was a bit better on TV, but it was awkward, imho. and i am a big, big bruce fan.

pink houses was terrific. forgot about that.

garth did do easy songs, yes, but he did them well.

this land is your land was great.

U2 were as good as anyone else, though i don't think they were clearly "the best" or whatever. what i took away from their performance is that, for all the knocks that HTDAAB takes, COBL is every bit a classic, all-time U2 athem for now and forever. it sounded majestic and got a bigger reaction out of the crowd than "pride."

you couldn't see us on TV. or, rather, how we looked on TV was how the people on the stage looked to us who were there. i.e, like ants.

that's my complaint. the concert was staged for TV. it was not staged for those in attendence.

but it was history. was glad to be there.

I like COBL but not nearly as much as everyone else I guess. I never listen to it (or anything on HTDAAB) but every time I hear it it takes me right back to Phoenix where I had the best ever spot front and center on the outside of the ramp. Sigh. That was a good time.
