great idea if you can't get there yourself.

I remember coming home from CLinton's '92 swearing in. I stayed at my sib's house, and stayed up further to watch the Clinton's live or on vid going around to all the balls. ANd watching vids of the swearing in and the parade!
it was so much fun!

You'll probably have a great time, cori!b

I'm glad that O isn't calling any extra attention to himself during this transition.

HBO better not edit U2's performance in any way.

While I am excited about Obama becoming President as the next person who is ready for change, I must say his Inauguration is turning more and more into a Coronation.

Definition of Inauguration: the ceremonial induction into a position; "the new president obviously enjoyed his inauguration"

Definition of Coronation: The act or solemnity of crowning a sovereign; the act of investing a prince with the insignia of royalty, on his succeeding to the sovereignty.

Similar definitions, but vastly different. An inauguration is meant to be a ceremony of inducting the new President, as the definition says. A coronation, is what old-time (and even current) England and other countries who have/had royal/noble leaders do to honor the sovereign leader. I realize that all Presidents have had bands, poets, speakers at the events, but this is turning into an all-out honoring and homage to Obama, and in a sense, it's almost a coronation. What's next, we'll crown him King? The country hasn't been this behind a President and prepared so much hoopla over the inauguration of a President since, I would think, JFK.

There was an awful lot of hoopla around Clinton's inauguration too, wasn't there? Balls and concerts and whatnot?

Yeah, let's not look at either Bush inauguration for an example of what most inaugurations look like. A lot of us were embarrassed that our country elected the idiot, especially the second time around. We didn't want to call even more attention to our shame.

I'm doing the same thing. I am debating whether to go to a nearby theater which is showing the Inauguration...it would be fun to be with other people. But I'll probably be staying home, watching it all on HBO (no commercials!) unless I need a Keith Olbermann fix.

So many of us are so excited...this is wonderful!!!
