Save The Boobs

Some people think it "goes too far" and is somehow disrespectful of the issue. This type of ad is used to get attention for just about everything these days, so what about for breast cancer awareness too?

A Canadian charity called "Rethink Breast Cancer" has stirred up some controversy with their new breast cancer awareness PSA called "Save the Boobs". It features a buxom young woman in a bikini whose breasts are being admired by men and women alike. The tagline is "You know you like them, now it's time to save the boobs."

The ad is clearly aimed at a younger generation and is designed to be memorable as well as appeal to men:

"The spots are definitely not for everyone," charity Founder M.J. Decoteau told ABC News. "Young people are picking up pamphlets with a 65-year-old woman on the cover and probably tossing them out. We're really about creating a bold way of communicating the message in a fun way that's going to stop them in their tracks. We're hoping that they get the take-away message that is to be breast aware."

They actually made it 18 and over on YouTube-but you can view it here (only if you're over 18 of course..) if you aren't signed up there and don't feel like doing that.

As long as it spreads awareness, it's okay by me.

In this particular instance, I believe the end is greater than the means. Boobs.

Sorry to ruin the mood in this thread, but I have to give my own

I guess the ad is an attempt to take the breast cancer issue in a light hearted way. But I don't know if its a good idea. Someone may have lost someone to breast cancer, or is battling it, and they might see this ad as offensive.

I am currently losing someone to breast cancer and it made me smile. Then again, I'm not as uptight or as easily offended as most people.

In my opinion, people who are mired in the seriousness of breast cancer almost need a lighthearted perspective to bust the stress and everyone else turns away because the topic is serious and uncomfortable - maybe this campaign will open up dialogue which is a good thing.

Not saying that you have to be uptight or easily offended to find such a thing offensive or strange or something like that. I've also lost someone to breast cancer and I just think there's other ways of creating a lighthearted perspective to have a different look on problems. Positivity ftw but in my view dialogues could be opened up in different ways than these.
