I thought all the mods get paid a handsome full-time wage plus benefits for moderating the forums.

While neither confirming nor denying claims that the US has been bugging European budget meetings, John Kerry had the following to say.
Quote:
But he said at a press conference: "Every country in the world that is engaged in international affairs of national security undertakes lots of activities to protect its national security and all kinds of information contributes to that.

"And all I know is that is not unusual for lots of nations. But beyond that I'm not going to comment any further until I have all the facts and find out precisely what the situation is."
And digitize had the following to say: what the HELL, John Kerry?

What little credibility the US Government has left overseas - is fading rapidly. Of course, it has virtual zero credibility left here at home.

I find it strange that the Left and Right wing politicians are mostly united in support of things like PRISM and virtually nothing else - while at the same time the Left and Right wing voters are mostly united against things like PRISM and virtually nothing else.

I think we're all united in compromise, personally. And mostly (idealistic ideologues aside) we're adults that learned as children that you can't get everything that you want. That's the biggest disconnect between DC pols and the majority of their constituents. Of course, it's not what they really believe. It's just what they have to do to stay in power.

"90% of Americans support background checks on firearm purchases? No dice! The NRA funds my campaigns!" Both Democrats and Republicans take their money. This shit has been true for decades and some people still aren't wise to it. Why are Republicans so tied to Grover Norquist's tax pledge? Is it because of principle? Maybe for some. But for most it's because he has PROVEN he can beat them in a primary when they don't play by his rules. And that's what they care about more than anything - staying in office.

Our Government has sold us out. Literally. But we're supposed to believe that suddenly Barack Obama is the Big Bad Wolf. They are all wolves. Either right from the start or they've been bitten and have become wolves out of the will to survive the 'game'.

This is, in a nutshell, why I loathe partisan BS.
It's the mechanism by which nothing ever changes.

The biggest disconnect between the politicians and the voters was revealed in the Citizens United case.

It really is very interesting.

Though I wonder how this will change the more and more we learn about Snowden. I actually view him as largely a douchebag at this point. Somebody who loves freedom seeking protection from Putin? Okay.

Some would say because it gives the ruling people the power, so if you're in government you're not going to ever really truly reduce your own power. Some might say so in word, but most are eventually corrupted by it.

Others would say, it's because they know something they're not telling us.

As a society we've always been a little paranoid by the concept of big brother. Which is ironic because I think we've turned into a very exhibitionist and voyeuristic society. We're pretty much fine with anyone else knowing everything about us except the government.

Memphis used to work for BAH. He thinks Snowden should be put in jail.

BVS - that was one of the best insights I've read from you (I'm sure I've missed others). I'm glad I decided to come back to the forum.

That's how I feel. I don't trust his sanctimony and grandstanding.

Well - I really don't know that much about Snowden. And I'm afraid that the info we receive on him will be more smear campaign material than the truth. I've been waiting for the teen porn on his computer accusation...

If this man is legit, I think he should go to jail for breaking the law - but he should take comfort in knowing that he did the right thing by exposing the truth.

No, you probably haven't missed any, but thanks. And I think I speak for many of us in saying we're glad you came back.
