I sometimes think that the PTC is a covert advertising agency that these stations hire to drum up ratings.

The most offensive thing a television program can do is be shitty. I saw like 15 minutes of this show, and HOLY SHIT IT IS AWFUL. Adults need to stop pretending they remember being teenagers.

But what if they regret their teen years? What if they regret sleeping with the wrong person, experimenting with drugs, etc., and they don't want their children to live the same lives? Perhaps these adults don't want what they went through to be glamorized?

Just because they were idiots as teenagers doesn't mean everyone was. The collective teenage IQ is significantly higher than television or film would have you believe.

I just turned 20, I still feel like I have good perspective on this.

The U.K. Skins rules. Kaya Scodelario is a stunning young actress. There's a really great look to the series, too. It alternates between very bright, almost fluorescent imagery, and very dark, seedy, watery landscapes. Great stuff. Great photography, at least in my estimation. And it's got booze and sex and cigarettes and laughs. Excited for the third cast to start up soon. No more Kaya, though.

I haven't seen the U.S. version. Though I was surprised to see that they're basically following the exact same plot line as the first series of U.K. Skins? Uhhhh, yeah. They're not going to get young actors or actresses to top the kids that played Tony, Sid, Cassie, etc. They should have gone with their own, fresh story. It's just going to look stale in comparison.

I don't really have anything to add to the discussion in the thread, whatever that is. But I'll agree that we are too prudish over here in America. Maybe the show deserves a bunch of gasps and has elements that should be frowned upon. Maybe it doesn't. I'll probably check it out sometime soon.

I guess England is just cooler than us.

The guy quoted in the article in the OP seems to be under the impression that British law is somehow lax on the issue of child pornography, which is completely incorrect.

There have been cases of parents being reported to the police and hauled in for questioning when they left photos of their kids in beach-wear to be developed in pharmacies.

I have never heard of this show and have no intention of watching it as it sounds sleazy, moronic and exploitative but child pornography? From the descriptions given, hardly.

Actually, England is a rather dreary and boring place with terrible weather. This is why they make good, edgy tv and great pop music. There's literally nothing else to do.

What about Ireland? Don't they have terrible weather? And how do they make up for it?

Drinking, complaining and watching US tv shows are the main Irish hobbies.

Every MTV Show has some sort of controversy. There's one called "16 & Pregnant" that shows the lives and struggles of being a teenage mom, the people that dislike it come around with the stupid question of "Why the hell is that show on MTV!?" Hence, blinding themselves of the message and purpose of the show which is to show the reality of decisions taken, promote safe-sex practices, avoid promiscuity, be a responsible teenager, etc.

Similar questioning comes from Jersey Shore and now Skins... it's a constant pattern, basically.

Last year, I was in London during a layover, and I felt like I was in Seattle.

I'm not sure, I thought it was an American MTV remake but maybe not. I meant to check it out on demand over the weekend but I didn't get around to it. GM, Taco Bell and other advertisers are dropping like flies.

"Child pornography is defined by the United States as any visual depiction of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. In some cases, “a picture of a naked child may constitute illegal child pornography if it is sufficiently sexually suggestive,” according to the Justice Department’s legal guidance. Anyone younger than 18 is considered to be a minor.

The youngest cast member on “Skins” is 15."

So I think that's the issue in a nutshell-even not considering any specific situations that are portrayed.
