This is the new 2009 Human Development report with the latest Human Development index ranking the standard of living of countries around the world based on the latest available data from 2007.

The United States falls back one to #13 from its position on the 2006 index. Several countries are included for the first time like Liechtenstein #19,
Andorra #28, and Afghanistan at #181.

Iraq is still not included in this years list because estimates for GDP and GDP per capita were not caculated. But, there was enough data to come up with Iraq's Life Expectancy index, and Iraq's Education index. Using the CIA's GDP per capita adjusted for Purchasing Power Parity for Iraq, combined with the other two index's, it appears Iraq's current standard of living is similar to that of Morocco which is at #130, and ahead of India(#134) and Pakistan(#141).

Iraq:
Life Expectancy Index: 0.695
Education Index: 0.714
GDP Per Capita: $3,700 (CIA Estimate)

Morocco:
Life Expectancy Index: 0.767
Education Index: 0.574
GDP Per Capita: $4,108

India:
Life Expectancy Index: 0.639
Education Index: 0.643
GDP Per Capita: $2,753

Human Development Report 2009 - Human development index value

Of course depending on what you think is important every individual would rate the countries differently.

The index ranks the countries by combining known data for health, education and wealth and is the most widely used and accepted ranking for standard of living.

So, the United States is 30th in Health, 20th in Education, and 9th in wealth. I don't think that ranking 20th in Education means the country is "stupid", and despite overweight rates in the USA, 30th in health is good relative to the rest of the world as well.

20, 30 and 9, truly that is American exceptionalism.

At least ya'all have all that freedom that we don't.

But, but, but we have the greatest healthcare system on the planet. It's the greatest country god has made. Why all this liberal American hating propaganda?

I really hope Hannity clears this up.

well, our ranking in total prison population AND percentage of population in prison are both #1 in the world.

Hey, look at Japan.

Japan

Health: 1st

Education: 29th

Wealth: 25th

Result: #10 on the overall list.

Yeah, that oughtta shut all those Japanese exceptionalists around here up.

come to australia, we'd have you. Also, don't have to learn a new language like ou would in norway

Good point. But I've heard that Norwegian girls are very...accommodating.

Anyway, if I leave the country, I'm goin to London. In 2012.

Australia being No. 2 suprises me. I'm pretty sure the public school system has gone to the firey depths. That GDP ranking is that for 2007? It would be interesting to see the GDP wealth ranking post crisis.

Australia - fuck yeah!

Pity about everything that is absolutely rooted in this country - but according to those pre-requisites this is truly heaven on Earth! Now if only we can take out those pesky Norwegians... What have they done for the world lately? Hosted Eurovision? A winter Olympics?

lol

I like endless summers on the beach, and Norwegian girls never particularly attracted me. Also, I prefer red bikinis to white wooly pullovers.

The reason for being "accomodating" is Norwegian men are drunk all the weekends.

Let´s see where bankrupt Iceland falls from #3, pre-crisis
