BBC News - Newtown overwhelmed by media

But our footprint in tiny Sandy Hook is exceptionally heavy. And after a while, you have to wonder what more there is to say.

The children have gone. Their poor parents are grieving. The police are saying very little.

Some reporting comes close to repeatedly ripping a sticking plaster off. Watch or listen or read too much, and it feels as if we are wallowing in other people's pain.

Go home, the man in the lobby said, go home. And very soon, I will.

I don't know if this is true, but this suggest that all those arguing that he should have been made to get help,
now we will have some saying if she did not do just that, nobody would be dead

Quote:
The gunman who slaughtered 20 children and six adults at a Connecticut elementary school may have snapped because his mother was planning to commit him to a psychiatric facility, according to a lifelong resident of the area who was familiar with the killer’s family and several of the victims’ families.

Adam Lanza, 20, targeted Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown after killing his mother early Friday because he believed she loved the school “more than she loved him,” said Joshua Flashman, 25, who grew up not far from where the shooting took place. Flashman, a U.S. Marine, is the son of a pastor at an area church where many of the victims' families worship.

“From what I've been told, Adam was aware of her petitioning the court for conservatorship and (her) plans to have him committed," Flashman told FoxNews.com. "Adam was apparently very upset about this. He thought she just wanted to send him away. From what I understand, he was really, really angry. I think this could have been it, what set him off.”

A senior law enforcement official involved in the investigation confirmed that Lanza's anger at his mother over plans for “his future mental health treatment” is being looked at as a possible motive for the deadly shooting.

I still don't understand what connection any of them had to the school.

If she was never even a substitute there maybe she volunteered there, something like that. I assume he went to school there at some point. Maybe he felt that she had sided with the school in some way if he had issues there-that's pure speculation. Grasping at straws, I'm at a loss to understand.

Let me guess....$$$. Gee I hope they don't go broke.

The NRA has released its first statement on the incident:

National Rifle Association of America is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters – and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown.

Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting.

The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again.

The NRA is planning to hold a major news conference in the Washington, DC area on Friday, December 21.

Fringe Tea Party-group, Tea Party Nation, also had this to say: “Support the creation of local organizations to act as ‘neighborhood watch’ for schools. Had George Zimmerman been at the front door instead of some mechanical card reader those children would still be alive.”
Wow, really?

"Fringe" is definitely an appropriate word to describe this group.

The eulogy that Noah Pozner's mother delivered at his funeral (the family gave a copy to the Associated Press). Don't know how in the world she did that. Absolutely heartbreaking.

The sky is crying, and the flags are at half-mast. It is a sad, sad day. But it is also your day, Noah, my little man. I will miss your forceful and purposeful little steps stomping through our house. I will miss your perpetual smile, the twinkle in your dark blue eyes, framed by eyelashes that would be the envy of any lady in this room.

Most of all, I will miss your visions of your future. You wanted to be a doctor, a soldier, a taco factory manager. It was your favorite food, and no doubt you wanted to ensure that the world kept producing tacos.

You were a little boy whose life force had all the gravitational pull of a celestial body. You were light and love, mischief and pranks. You adored your family with every fiber of your 6-year-old being. We are all of us elevated in our humanity by having known you. A little maverick, who didn't always want to do his schoolwork or clean up his toys, when practicing his ninja moves or Super Mario on the Wii seemed far more important.

Noah, you will not pass through this way again. I can only believe that you were planted on Earth to bloom in heaven. Take flight, my boy. Soar. You now have the wings you always wanted. Go to that peaceful valley that we will all one day come to know. I will join you someday. Not today. I still have lots of mommy love to give to Danielle, Michael, Sophia and Arielle.

Until then, your melody will linger in our hearts forever. Momma loves you, little man.

Can't even fathom the pain of the families. As many others my heart is broken for them.

Deeply moving, lovely eulogy. I honestly don't know how the parents can even manage right now, but any strength they're showing is definitely deeply admirable.

Apparently/allegedly he did enough advance planning to smash his computer so that police couldn't recover evidence from it

Lanza attended the school as a child and allegedly his mother volunteered there.

Ad campaign that was running for the Bushmaster .223 until last week.

Bushmaster Rifles Has Been Running The Most Evil Ads I’ve Ever Seen — The Good Men Project

I don't know about you, but I'm okay with being labelled "unmanly" if it means I don't own an assault weapon.
