Plenty of women have sex with chauvinistic douchebags-and just plain chauvinists, and just plain douchebags

This is unfortunately true. I guess I've just been spoiled, so to speak, by only having serious relationships with progressive guys. I never have, nor would I ever be with a guy that has the type of mindset of Joe and his ilk. They make me sick.

It's sad that this guy is actually saying what too many people think.

There is an upside to him actually saying it. Otherwise it's so much easier to pretend no one would think like that.

This. X Infinity.

He's the embodiment of why the rest of the world hates us.

This polarizing approach is so American. The rest of the world differentiates between the arrogant ass's and the good citizens and only hates the former. ;)

anyone who thinks god tells them what to do loses just a little credibility in my book.

Joe doesn't speak for me, but I have to say it's laughable that so many of you took his comment to mean he "hates" gay people. That's not how I read it.

How did you read it?

I think the most unfortunate part is the bit where he says he wouldn't let gay friends near his children, since we all know that the homosexuals=pedophiles is a well-established, yet totally bullshit tagline.

I worked on the obama campaign and I remember our entire office laughing at how ridiculous this whole "joe the plumber" thing was. His 10 seconds of fame are up.... well they should be at least?

by the way, if anyone wants an extra dose of joe the plumbers political intellect, make sure to pick up his new book:

Amazon.com: Joe the Plumber: Fighting for the American Dream: Samuel J. Wurzelbacher, Thomas N. Tabback: Books

:doh::doh:

Homophobic uninformed rednecks read?

Fair enough.

I wouldn't want him around my children.

Hell, I don't want him around anyone I give a damn about. Seriously, why would you want anyone you like around that kind of stupid? It's like fast food grease -- it's rancid and permeates everything. Ick. :barf:

how else am i supposed to react to a quote where he says that he wants to keep his children away from me?

if that isn't hate, i don't know what is.

Republican Party ... I felt connected to it because individual freedom should not be legislated by the federal government.

Yet there's only one party that wants to limit marriage, ban abortion, kill based on the findings of an imperfect legal system, and make America a Christian nation.

I used to be a strong libertarian, but after lots of thinking, research, talking to a lot of people, and so on... I would definitely now consider myself a secular progressive. Either way, I would still disagree with Joe- my biggest fear for America is the religious facism that some people in our country want. To call america a "Christian nation" is totally untrue, and to be guided by religion is the complete wrong track for our country to follow. I am so glad Obama won the election

....just my $.02

I think overall Libertarians are for government not mettling in social situations.

therefore, wouldnt libertarians be for gay marriage/ and rights without the government restriction?

no, see, when Jesus founded the libertarian party, he was totally against gay marriage and he was all, "it's adam and eve, dude, not adam and steve."

it's totally in the Bible.

Is he the average man struggling against the oppressive agenda of socialists and queers, or just a hangover from a bygone era.
Assuming this is a serious question...as far as how "average" his views on same-sex marriage are, you can perhaps get a decent idea of that by checking the most recent major public opinion polls, both from late April:

ABC News/Washington Post poll (.pdf)

CBS News/New York Times poll

The specific questions asked were significantly different (the CBS poll included civil unions as an alternative; ABC's didn't) but, taken together, they suggest that the country is nearing or possibly at the point of being split 50/50 on this issue; so, it might be getting difficult to speak of the "average American's" view at this point. (Both polls break down the results by political affiliation.)

I don't think, though, that "I’ve had some friends that are actually homosexual. And...I wouldn’t have them anywhere near my children" could be called an 'average' view. A significant minority, shamefully, but not 'average.' Ditto for the 'Constitution based on Christian values' rhetoric and his comments about God leading politicians...again, a significant minority would agree, but I don't think these preoccupations could be called 'average.'

While the statistics are appreciated, and somewhat nice, the point I was getting at with the rhetorical question was that posters who take a "homoskeptic" point of view generally make the point that it is simple common sense that homosexuality is wrong (the point made by Joe), and that their views/biases are widely held.

But where I get confused is, Libertarians are very big on legalizing pot, while Republicans want to throw the casual pot smoker in the gulag...WWJD?

It's not a shock he's horny. What woman would have sex with that chauvinistic douchebag?:barf:

Ann Coulter?

Ann Coulter?

I asked what woman.
