Given a platform by Christianity Today, Joe the Plumber lets loose on his real feelings, which may be the grassroots feelings of the GOP
In the last month, same-sex marriage has become legal in Iowa and Vermont. What do you think about same-sex marriage at a state level?

At a state level, it’s up to them. I don’t want it to be a federal thing. I personally still think it’s wrong. People don’t understand the dictionary—it’s called queer. Queer means strange and unusual. It’s not like a slur, like you would call a white person a honky or something like that. You know, God is pretty explicit in what we’re supposed to do—what man and woman are for. Now, at the same time, we’re supposed to love everybody and accept people, and preach against the sins. I’ve had some friends that are actually homosexual. And, I mean, they know where I stand, and they know that I wouldn’t have them anywhere near my children. But at the same time, they’re people, and they’re going to do their thing.
Why does conservatism appeal to you as a Christian?

Conservatism is about the basic rights of individuals. God created us. As far as the government goes, the Founding Fathers based the Constitution off of Christian values. It goes hand-in-hand. As far as the Republican Party? I felt connected to it because individual freedom should not be legislated by the federal government.
Does the Republican Party reach out to evangelicals enough?

No. None of them stand up for anything. They use God as a punch line. They use God to invoke sympathy or invoke righteousness, but they don’t stay the course. That’s why I think that all needs to be taken out of the federal level and give it back to the states. We’ve lost our American history. Every state has “In God we trust” or “With God’s help” in their constitution. God is recognized as, if you will, America’s religion.

A question to FYM, does Joe speak for you? Is he the average man struggling against the oppressive agenda of socialists and queers, or just a hangover from a bygone era.

What a sad sad man...

But unfortunately, I believe he does speak for many, it's just that most aren't dumb enough to admit it, especially so publicly...

How is it all homophobes have gay "friends"?

What are you talking about? I have friends that I don't like, or visit, or support. It's completely normal and not queer at all.

Fair enough.

I wouldn't want him around my children.

This. X Infinity.

He's the embodiment of why the rest of the world hates us. He's an arrogant, self-important ass who fancies himself as well-informed and intelligent, when, in reality he's an ignorant idiot who has as much knowledge of the world around him as the 5 year old I baby-sat last night. In fact, that's an insult to 5 year olds.:|

I agree. He has gay friends and won't let them anywhere near his children? How can you say to someone. "Hey let's be friends, but don't you go near my kids, alright." Homosexuality isn't a disease. You can't catch it.

Not just that, but if I'm gay there's no way I'm friends with somebody like that.

He may as well have said, "I have black friends, but I still think they should sit at the back of the bus."

How can anyone call someone a "friend" and not let them near their children? To me that totally defies any definition of a "friend".

God is pretty explicit in what we’re supposed to do—what man and woman are for.

Oh is he now?......hmmmm

He's the self-described token redneck...and pretty much a media pawn to keep up the distraction of partisan bickering.

I can't even watch that video 'cause I know it will piss me off. Considering I live in San Francisco and back gay marriage, especially for my friends that want to get married, I just can't listen to the convoluted logic that these people spout to justify their bs.
