January 20, 2009--Inauguration Day

I want this thread to be reflections on the day...leave out the politics, any feelings of angst against either side. Today is a historic day, what are your thoughts on this moment?

I am most looking forward to telling my niece and nephew as they get older to telling them that I had the honor to play a part, however small, in making history. They will read about this in their textbooks, that despite America's flaws it is still possible to love this country and continue to make it a better place for future generations.

I don't know what else to say, the images are leaving me speechless.

Let's just hope Obama doesn't turn out to be a disappointment bigger than what they're making this occasion to be.

With all my heart and soul I truly and sincerely wish him the best of luck in the impossible job he starts tomorrow.

I pray that G-d will grant him the wisdom to do what is right for the American people and that his presidency goes down in history not only for being the first African-American president but rather for being the president who brings true peace and stability to all the regions in the world.

My thoughts and prayers are with my American friends on this historic day and I embrace you all as my friend. Israel and America share a bond that can't be broken and we will always stand next to you in true friendship and commaraderie.

Best of luck and Mazal Tov to President Obama and the new first family.

I cannot even begin to imagine the feelings any new President has at this time, but it has to be pretty damned surreal.

I remember as a young girl seeing on television, the police beating the african americans because they were marching for equal rights. It frightened me and I asked my mother, "why is this happening." She tried to explain that is was because these peaceful folks had darker skin then me. She also, was crying like me and said this is terribly wrong. I am happy to be young enough, to finally see more equality in the country, I call my home. God bless President Obama! Free at last, thank God almighty, we are free at last.

a) I said "please."

b) I edited.

And no, I didn't forget you're British. That coronation you guys had for QEII must have been a low-key affair, right? No music, no prayers or pomp and circumstance. Nah, nothing like that at all.

If you want cheese you want to see a system like the Brits have where the elected politico of the day has to ask permission from the head of the biggest fucking cheese factory in the world to form a government.

That was possibly the biggest Pot-Kettle-Black in the history of FYM Vaz, well maybe second to diamond's "why are you picking on us" comment a few months back.
