Richard Holbrooke, one of America's greatest diplomats and international specialist passed away on December 13, 2010. Richard Holbrooke helped to end the war in Bosnia, helped rescue Kosovo, was behind NATO enlargement that has brought in 12 more countries into the Alliance since 1999, and has been the United States special envoy in dealing with Afghanistan and Pakistan. He could have been secretary of state years ago, but perhaps he is too good for that position.(If he was secretary of state his work would be divided up between multiple area's of the world instead of focused on the vital Afghan/Pakistan area like it is now) His work on the international arena started with the State Department back in 1962. He is probably the United States most experienced and successful diplomat.
