Thank you AEON!

He can talk all he wants. I just think no one should listen.
Why not? I listen to what the left has to say all the time (what choice do I have, I'm a Vermonter ), even if its about a particular issue where our viewpoints strongly clash. I try and take in everything from both sides of the spectrum, and then forge my own opinions. If we stop listening to what the opposition has to say, then how do we better ourselves and create a clearer understanding of our own beliefs?

hope you stick around Pac_Mule. I'm always interested in hearing thoughtful opinions from the conservative point of view.

Any frustration I have with conservatives is more the type of argument that seems to dominate the ideology these days--arguments that are cheap and dishonest. I think there could have, for example, been some constructive criticism of the Democrat's health reform plan but what dominated the airwaves (and a lot of the posting) was just nonsense.
Thanks, and I'll try. I completely agree with you about the health care. I had some issues with it, particularly requring everyone to have it, but all I heard was "socialist this, socialist that." Tiresome.

I'm not saying you shouldn't listen to both sides of the issue. I'm saying you shouldn't listen to people who are uninformed or misleading. Glenn Beck is both uninformed and misleading, and the fact that people take what he has to say seriously is very scary.

Ah, okay. I wasn't sure who you were referring to. But yeah, people like him are assholes. Half the time I don't agree with him, but even if I did, I still wouldn't like him. He's such a polarizing figure, and the last thing we need is more polarization in politics.

Indeed. The misinformation angle needs to stop in all aspects of the media, no matter which side you're on. You can be a Democrat who supports the idea of climate change but will still be willing to look through the numbers and the science to make sure it is legit and not just to push one agenda or another, and you can be a Republican who takes issue with aspects of the healthcare bill but will still be willing to say that Sarah Palin's claim that the bill included "death panels" is bullshit (pardon my French). I do think anyone, be they a politician, member of the press, average everyday citizen, etc., should be called out if they spread any beliefs that can be proven to be untrue, especially if the person knows full well what they're saying is untrue. We need to have everyone getting the proper information so we can work to get things taken care of.

Beyond that, yes, so long as people like Beck are around we'll talk about them and rant or rave about them and whatever, but let's not give them any more power beyond that. They're commentators. They puff things up for ratings. That's all. I'm much more concerned about what a politician says than what a news commentator says, because the politician will be in charge of things that will directly affect me.

Also, I'll ditto the other sentiments here, I don't want you or any of the other more conservative posters here to feel uncomfortable or leave. I love hearing other people's opinions, I love a good debate. I find it interesting to see why people think the way they do. All I ask is respect and honesty when discussing an issue. Your post was well put, and I thank you for your service to defend our right to keep arguing with each other .

Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin to Use 9/11 as Fundraising Opportunity SpeakEasy

Glenn Beck Donating Fee From Sept. 11 Event - Political Hotsheet - CBS News

What do you all think? Does the fact that he's donating his "speaking fee" make this fine for everyone?

I'm absolutely disgusted at how political this anniversary is turning out to be. And they have the gall to suggest others are being insensitive about 9/11.

I remember before the 2004 elections, there was a big billboard on the bus ride home, and it said "REMEMBER SEPTEMBER 11, 2001" and sponsored by the republican party.

That made me so mad. It made me think, "You know what? I DO remember September 11, and what's happened to this country since then. So thanks for making me feel even better about voting for Gore."

I may or may not have also thought the word "dickheads" at the end of that thought.

I'm a college student. I went out tonight and expected to party. And do you know what happened? I ended up talking to a girl for two hours about 9/11. Just talking about what happened that day, how it affected us, the people we knew involved. The friends and relatives of ours who died.

Now, Republican fucks like Sarah Palin would say I'm not a real American because I'm not from the wilderness. I'm not from the forests and the farmland or whatever is her version of "real America." I had family and friends die nine years ago, and I honor their memory every year. Yet, because I agree with social liberals on issues like gay marriage, the death penalty, and abortion, I'm a liberal elite who's not a real American.

Hey, Sarah Palin. Go fuck yourself. If I met you on the street, I'd shake your hand, say my name and my background, and tell you to fuck off. You are everything that's wrong with the world.

ITA. I grew up in a small town, and so many people were just like Sarah Palin, narrow-minded, proudly incurious and hugely bigoted. Thank goodness I escaped soon after I graduated from high school.

And I'm proud to be an urban elite who supports a woman's right to choose, gay marriage, etc., even if in Sarah's eyes I'm not a real American.

There's this scary rumor going around that Palin will announce her candidacy for President. Shudder.

When this happens it will be the official "Death Rattle" of the Republican Party that I knew from years ago.

In other Threads I've asked the question who the Fk are these idiotic, imbicilic wanna-be hate mongerers spewing an agenda that the great Republicans of old would see as a joke? How did the likes of Beck, Palin and Rush be able to hijack this Party and morph into this? Un-fing-believable.
