Deep, I really think you should take that photo down. There is no need to show two children terrified and devastated like that. I know I'm not a mod, but really...

I guess you're trying to illustrate your point, but I just feel its a bit insensitive.

really ?? it's on the front page of the Drudge Report, and most other (even ) responsible news sites.

I would not put up a picture of dead kids,

I would not put up a picture of dead kids,

Even I'm bothered by what those sites did. Why sink to their level?

Like I said, I'm not a mod. So do what you like.

it's a sad day when we have to seriously think about having armed police at elementary schools.

I wouldn't really think of it as 'armed police'. I mean it's a bit of a redundancy, considering 'unarmed police' are not a normal sight.

It is a sad day though. Hindsight as it may be, but we should have considered this without the shooting. Elementary schools (and all public schools) tend to be generally more isolated institutions with concentrated populations of some of the most defenseless individuals. I can't speak for everywhere, but I can tell you that in my state we have more than enough sheriffs patrolling the roads giving out unnecessary fines and not enough protecting our people.

nothing

with each 'new' incident the arguments remain the same.

1. the gun was not the problem, the law breaker was
2. in Texas or (insert state here) people have the right to carry everywhere, and they will give examples of when a law abiding person used his gun to stop a bad person.
3. we have enough laws on books, we don't need new laws, we just need better enforcement
4. look what just happened in China 22 kids, not 18 were killied where guns are banned by a knife, people that want to kill will find a means to do so.
5. because bad people do bads things, we should not lose our Constitutional rights, why should bad people control what rights good people have

( I could probably write 10 more)

Politically speaking, the military industrial complex's incredible power over legislation and the political parties is a massive problem. The same firearm and ammunition manufacturers who sell retail to private citizens, also sell to the government. Any "scare" to these companies that they might lose some of sales, in turn is met with a threat to the government that they would have to increase their prices and contracts to cover the possible loss to their sales.

Fundamentally, the main reason for the lack of idea of what to do is tied into the Bill of Rights. The precedent of even editing or adjusting, let alone overturning, one of the fundamental rights provided has left the country confused as to how to handle the dangers inherent to private citizens owning firearms for nearly a century. Certainly the founding fathers didn't expect the implications this would cause with future technological advancements. That said, the horrific potential percent it would set to overturn or drastically edit one of the fundamental rights provided has left the government baffled, particularly with how all over the map the opinions what the policies should be are.

. did you see my location?

you may not want to go out

they are on t v and will be in every newspaper and magazines for the fore seeable future

Whatever, deep.

With a tragedy like this, a little sensitivity would be nice rather than look to shock people.

the incident is shocking, and that is an understatement

a jpep on a discussion board? at most is an oportunity for those that may not care, to take a momemtary pause

Horrifying. Perverse. Right before the holidays, can't begin to imagine what those poor families are feeling right now.

Usual parroting of "now is not the time to talk about gun control". You're right, that day came and passed a long time ago. Seems like nobody in America, Obama very much included, has any kind of principled stand here. Sad.

I just watched the replay of his statement and that sure was some genuine emotion. But yes, who will take a genuine stand? Too many of them in bed with the NRA.
It's shameful.

Stumbled onto this on Facebook, one of the most disgusting things I've seen in my life.

Viewer discretion is strongly advised

I don't the latest Flash so I didn't see the video, but I saw the comments and I am disgusted beyond belief that someone would do that. How the hell does someone post a video of a mother beating her young child and think its OK to do so? Even worse, if you look at the very first set of comments, some people think its funny.

I do not know how to deal with this knowledge other than to continue drinking. We need to change our lives, not our laws.

I agree with the last part. Some people have a serious problem with empathy.

Don't make drinking a habit :)

Oh, lord, I didn't see this, either, 'cause I don't think I can stomach any more horrific stories today...that is for real?

*Looks at clock*

It's official. 7:47 pm-faith in humanity completely gone.

Sorry for the word, but that's the word that was used repeatedly

Yes, I can imagine their shock at seeing a black man during a football game.

Well, there appear to be fewer "monkey" comments compared to the tweets from the post-election Racist Twitter Convention, so ..... progress!

Yes, I can imagine their shock at seeing a black man during a football game.

But they're the acceptable non Socialist (could be Muslim) black men who aren't trying to take our money and our guns and our country away from us. Plus they wear those helmets to keep their faces covered, don't have to look at their black faces.

This story is not entirely disgusting, but it is also baffling. It is frightening and I think there is no need to start a thread to express every emotion.

But it is disgusting that local governments are going to great lengths to stop crime

In response to a recent increase in crime, Paragould Mayor Mike Gaskill and Police Chief Todd Stovall offered residents at a town hall meeting Thursday night at West View Baptist Church what could be considered an extreme solution — armed officers patrolling the streets on foot.

Stovall told the group of almost 40 residents that beginning in 2013, the department would deploy a new street crimes unit to high crime areas on foot to take back the streets.

"[Police are] going to be in SWAT gear and have AR-15s around their neck," Stovall said. "If you're out walking, we're going to stop you, ask why you're out walking, check for your ID."

Stovall said while some people may be offended by the actions of his department, they should not be.

"We're going to do it to everybody," he said. "Criminals don't like being talked to."

BTW, Paragould, Arkansas has a population of about 25,000. It is in Greene County which has about 45,000 people.

Now this is unconstitutional.

Oh how I hope the world ends tomorrow

WENTZVILLE, Mo. (AP) - A Wentzville man is jailed after allegedly becoming agitated during a barber shop discussion of the Newtown, Conn., shooting and allegedly shooting in the direction of a patron.

Assault, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a weapon charges were filed against 57-year-old Lester Davis of Wentzville following the shooting Tuesday at All Cuts Barber Shop in Wentzville.

A patron made the comment that the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School made him want to kill the suspect. For unknown reasons, police say Davis took the comment as a threat and asked, “You want to murder me?”

Davis then allegedly went to his car, retrieved a pistol and fired three times in the customer’s direction. No one was hurt.

Davis turned himself in and is jailed on $400,000 bond.

What really angers me is that there are some people who are against the banning of even assault weapons. I have a few Facebook friends who are so adamantly against any type of gun banning, even after what happened in Connecticut. Then again, those people are right-wing conspiracy theorists, and I probably should remove them from my list.

For the record, I consider all guns "assault weapons".

Nothing makes sense anymore.

Yes, but assault weapons are much worse and more deadlier than a regular gun. And yet, there are people who don't seem to care about the damage they cause. I just don't understand how anyone could read or watch reports on Newtown, and still believe people can freely own those types of guns.
