i've always thought the same thing. i find the commercials a bit creepy actually.

you know, from an advertisers perspective new zealand has an incredibly loose set of advertising laws - there is just so much you can get away with.

yet compared to america, the ads for dick pills are so much less disturbing. we see cuddling old couples, and that's it. plus we have got standards for other drug ads. i've seen the american ones, it's actually quite scary what they can say...new zealand the only stuff advertised are herbal remedies, which themselves are getting scrutinised.

i know you guys don't like the government interfering, but at some point standards need to be maintained.

now excuse me while i watch semi-naked women advertise an energy drink at 5pm.

I'm surprised it's taken this long. Those things are gross. The look on the face of the woman in those things (usually younger and hotter than the guy needing 'help') is nauseating enough. The worst one yet is the 'Extenz' one. Eww. Everyone knows this shit exists if they want it. I don't want to think about it during a TV show. While I am far, far from a prude, I can see how this would bring up interesting questions from preteens having one pop up in the middle of a movie.

I'm surprised that even after the Enzyte founder went to jail for fraud, the commercials are still on.

the ads are there for one reason

because there is a market and a demographic to target

who cares?
80+ % of things advertised do not appeal to me

don't we just tune them out?

as for a product advertised with the woman in those things is usually younger and hotter than the guy, that is true of every beer commercial I have ever seen

as for the politician that asked this?

I don’t want my three or four-year old grandkid asking me what erectile dysfunction is all about.

what an idiot, kids ask all kinds of questions about things they over hear or see all the time.

"Grandpa what's intercourse?" "What's a douche bag"?

If one does not know how to answer or deflect these questions they should not be around kids.

This was in the paper this morning. I think Dan Neil is a very entertaining writer.
