It's a boycott like that. Still is the iconic Russian vodka. Send the country a message.

That's how boycotts work.
I think the only message that whole "Freedom Fries" thing sent was that the people doing it were being ridiculous.

I think it was more of a joke than anything.

I don't know - it seems boycotts of specific products (unless the product itself is causing harm) will probably hurt more people than helps.

If you countenance a boycott of Russia over this why not Saudi Arabia or Pakistan over intolerance of homosexuals? Or at least over their intolerance of women? China over it's awful human rights record? The US over the questionable legality of drones (ignoring how morally absurd they are)? South Africa is a pretty poor place to be gay in as well. Ireland's shitty abortion laws?

Boycott's all sound ethically quite exciting but unless you are actually willing to go the full mile and apply the same moral reasoning to all states then it's a bit pointless and will only make you look like a hypocrite.

I'm not surprised. That whole thing was an embarrassment.

Straying a little off topic: I still have a hard time comprehending people's issue with drones. I think you're a good candidate to articulate that for me

That's what amuses me so much about "You ignorant Americans" talk. Or any generalization talk. "Everyone else in the world was laughing at you". Nobody was laughing at me, I wasn't doing it.

Well, I guess it's a good thing no one boycotted anything from South Afica in the 1980s.
