I've said it before, and i'll keep saying it. You need mandatory voting. If everyone who is a legal resident of the USA over the age of 18 was made to vote you would have a much clearer picture of what the people want and not have this 'disinterested' type of vote where now the replublicans are let back in and everyone complains bitterly about it. If they were voted by 60% of the population, well then you knwo where u stand, but the fact that young people, who are going to have to live with these types of governments and people a lot longer then older people can't be fucked to turn up and vote...well enjoy it.
Im sick of living in a everything needs to happen and change NOW world. Why not wait till 2012 to see whats been happening, if anything has changed, obama administration inherited a fucking HUGE debt that grew under the former admin who were too busy spending all your fucking money on a stupid wasteful war and didn't give a shit that your financial centre was being run by big fat can't see past their own arses managers.

Like a lot of non americans, i fucking give up. You have stuff so fundamentally wrong in your country yet you still harp on like you're the fucking beacon of hope and light in the world. I'll take my tips from China first. (not really, but you're heading that way)
 
Yep. All led by one homophobic man who had the money to get on the airwaves and spew his hate.

Des Moines is actually a very open city, progressive. but you start reaching out towards the rural/hick areas, and you get them scared that soon Bob is going to start marrying his horse.......this is what happens.

3 justices removed because of one vote.....one vote that has no impact on 90% of the population, and the other 10% thats affected by it just means they have a piece of paper that says they are a couple.

pathetic, and so is this country.
 
I'm not disappointed with the country or the voters.
Big money owns this country and the media and will keep voters angry about the wrong things (gay marriage, public debt, illegal immigrants, etc.) and ignorant of the important things (Citizens United ruling, CEO and Board pay, outsourcing, "free trade," etc.).

The truly important next step is for Democrats to retain the Presidency in 2012; There likely will be one or two more Supreme Court justices to replace in the next 6 years. An even more conservative, big business-friendly Supreme Court will keep the majority of Americans ignorant and sufficiently poor for decades to come.

baffling. cnn declared every winner in new york state with zero districts reporting.

a winner declared, without a vote counted.

obviously those who they projected were going to win, but come on now... did they all just forget the lessons of 2000?

a real, truly important next step would be for our country to elect a president who isn't tied to either party.

sadly, i believe that's still a ways off, and we'll have to be so paralyzed by partisan politics (as if we're not already) before the masses stand up and say enough is enough with this ideological bullshit.

Jesse Ventura's TV show ratings aren't great...just sayin' :wink:

He shocked the world once.
(And, his political views are very reasonable, despite what people think---government control where needed, government out where it's not welcome.)
 
Florida just elected a Republican governor who once ran a medical company. A few years ago, while he was CEO, that medical company was indicted on over a billion dollars' worth of Medicare fraud spanning fourteen felony counts. And this is a state with a large percentage of senior citizens.

I still am completely unable to comprehend that this man was electable, while a homosexual or atheist would never stand a chance.

jesse ventura thinks the world trade center was brought down by government insiders using thermite paint. he's a wackjob, and is not who i want as a third option.


i want the democrats who are ostracized for agreeing with the republicans too many times, the republicans who are seen as agreeing with the democrats too often, and everyone in between to come together and form the "both parties suck so vote for us" party.

most reasonable, rational thinking americans have certain things that they lean right on and certain things that they lean left on. and come election day all we get to choose from is a douche or a turd sandwich.

enough is enough.

MN's 8th District Congressman Oberstar was good for his territory, but he had been in Congress too long (the mid-1970s) and lost last night. Turn-over is good, and I (sometimes reluctantly) welcome it in both major parties.


2-3 terms in the Senate and 4-5 terms in the House would be about right. (But really, a House term should be increased to 4 years, and then term-limit them to 3-4 terms).

i get where you're going, and i agree it would help, but i would much rather see the dismantling of the two party system as we know it.

no where in the constitution does it say we have to have two parties who control everything... it's only that way because of money and corruption. it's a rather ineffective way to run a government.
 
I'm doubtful very many people in office, whatever they say before they get in office, will vote for term limits. They kinda like the in-office perks and shit.

Limits of any kind are for :shh: other people.

Well, they sure are doing a fucking shit job of getting that element across, because the only policy I've heard from the Tea Party is "VOTE OUT SOCIALISTS."

It's been like a year, and that's the only thing they really stand for.

Right, but money will always win. Always. And with the widening of the income gap, the power will continue to concentrate in the hands of the few.

That's not true. I'm looking at what message is getting out. When I read about the Tea Party and watch videos of the Tea Party, the ONLY message that gets across is that Democrats are socialists and we need to vote them out before they ruin the country. Whether you like it or not, that's the only thing the Tea Party stands for right now. There are no other views that define them. None.
 
Stricter term limits and real campaign finance reform are desperately needed.

Unfortunately Washington is such a culture of money and favours and lobbying that it's going to take a cataclysmic enema to ever get the US back to real politics ever again.

Corruption is rampant in Mexico, or Italy. The only difference is that in America we take corruption as part of the legislative process; it's baked into politics here and given nice pseudonyms like "playing ball" and "inside politics". Having to have millions in cash reserves to run for major office.

I actually think the Tea Party platform has some bright spots to it. Unfortunately, those are bundled in with 1970s-era anti-communist propaganda-laden cobwebs and mistrust of government on the wrong issues (mistrust of gov't on social issues instead of issues of personal freedoms and the reduction of civil liberties under the guise of anti-terror legislation).

So, yeah, Tea Party; some decent ideas, but the "I don't give a shit about my fellow man" stink really turns me off to them. That and the vague Christian / racist undertones.
 
Well the "Scott Brown effect" did not continue in MA. Barney Frank reelected, Democratic governor reelected (one who was thought to be DOA a while ago), Scott Brown's opponent reelected for DA. And a sales tax slash was defeated. Sweep-GOP did not win any of 10 congressional seats or any statewide office.
 
They took over Ohio and Florida. They will have a huge advantage built in for 2012.

If I had to predict now, I would say Obama loses both of those states and therefore the election.
