Where on the internet can you learn about guitar tones?

I want to learn how to get specific patches or guitar sounds or tones.... Are there any web sites that discuss how one goes about getting some neat tones. Like alt rock tones, nice distortions, etc... U2 guitar tones are cool, too.... but any idea what websites are good for that?

I have a Fender Champion 30 DSP and Crate GFX 212 for amps that I play/ practice with. I also have Epiphone Les Paul guitar. My effects board is a Boss ME-50. I've thought about getting a Line 6 POD b/c it has the option to download tones from their tone library but I'm saving up for something else.
