I'm a (very) amateur songwriter, and I play a little bit of guitar. I'm always looking for some new chord progressions to try out.

My standard process for writing a song is coming up with (or stealing) a chord progression, and playing it through a few times, then seeing if a vocal melody immediately jumps to mind that fits on top of that progression. Very simple shit. But it's a lot of fun.

So, gimme some chord progressions. Please.

Love the ones from Walk On. Both of them make me feel good.
D-A-G-Em
Em-G-D-A

It's pretty much the same thing, but the one at the end of the verses in Until The End Of The World.
D-A-Em-G

Here's a fun one, too. I'm pretty sure it's from What I Like About You.
E-A-G

Here's another one, but a little more sad sounding would be the word. I've heard it in a couple songs personally.
Dm-B-F-G

Another minor sounding one.
Bm-G-D-A

And another cool one is from the chorus of The Fly.
C#m-E-A

I hope people post more in this thread, I love messing around with progressions that are new to me.

Its funny when you add a capo to the first fret and play Em,G,D,A its Pumped up kicks by Foster The People. But play those chords and sing the "All that you fashion" part in "Walk On" it sound's exact! just thought i would share that!

My favorite start up song writing chords are G,D,C (Knocking Of Heavens Door)
Then I start playing other chords. But i thing starting with G is a good start.
