U2- Mercy (Tabbed by DiscothequeLP -- January 8, 2004)
Alright, here's the coolest U2 tab ever!
To get this song to sound good, you got to get the delay right, perfect to Larry's drum beat. There are 2-3 guitar tracks, so this tab is
pretty intricate. I used Vocal Cut on Cool Edit Pro and heard some extra gutiar parts that are inaudible on the mp3, so i won't bother with
those. This is just what you hear!
Ok that overdriven gutiar loop at the beginning is simply:
e|--12p10--12p10--12p10--12p10--|
b|------------------------------| over and over
g|------------------------------|
The main gutiar part goes something like this. Remember to let the delay play for you!
e|-------5------------------------|
b|--7------------5---7------------|
g|-----------------------6---7----|
d|--------------------------------|
a|--------------------------------|
E|--------------------------------|
We'll call this riff Part A.
Play this riff through the entire first verse.
Chorus Part 1
There are 2 gutiars playing this part of the chorus. One guitar strums these chords:
Em G
e|--------------------0------------------3--|
b|--------------------0------------------3--|
g|--------------------0------------------0--|
d|--------------------2------------------0--| 2x
a|--------------------2------------------2--|
E|--------------------0------------------3--|
When i'm rippin the stitches, without two cents to rub. . .
The other gutiar goes:
e|---------------------------------------------------------
b|------------------7---5---3------0--3/5--7---5---3-------
g|---------------------------------------------------------
d|---------------------------------------------------------
a|---------------------------------------------------------
E|---------------------------------------------------------
When i'm rippin the stitches, without two cents to rub. ..
e|---------------------------------------------------------|
b|---------------------------------------------------------|
g|--0--3p0--3--7---5---3------0--3/5--5/7--7--5--3---3-3-3-|
d|---------------------------------------------------------|
a|---------------------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------|
I'm diggin' the ditches . . . . of someone else's luck. . .
Chorus part 2
There's only one guitar during this part (phew!)
e|-------5-----------7--5----------5-----------7--5-----
b|------------------------------------------------------
g|-6h7-------6-6h7-----------7p6--------7-7p6-----------
d|------------------------------------------------------
a|------------------------------------------------------
E|------------------------------------------------------
Love hears when I lie, Love puts the blue back in my eye
e-------5-----------7--5----------7--5-------7----------|
b|------------------------------------------------------|
g|-6h7-------6-6h7------------7h6---------6-------------|
d|------------------------------------------------------|
a|------------------------------------------------------|
E|------------------------------------------------------|
Love will come again, I'll be gone again. . . again. . .
Then during the 2nd verse there's a different guitar 'loop'
e|--12--12--12p10-------10--12--12--12p10-------10-|
b|------------------12----------------------12-----|
g|-------------------------------------------------|
Then Part A comes back when Bono sings "And happiness is for. . ."
Then play Chorus Part 1, and play this revised Chorus part 2:
The main gutiar part for the 2nd Chorus part 2 is:
e|-------5-----------7--5----------5-----------7--5-----
b|------------------------------------------------------
g|-6h7-------6-6h7-----------7p6--------7-7p6-----------
d|------------------------------------------------------
a|------------------------------------------------------
E|------------------------------------------------------
Love hears when I lie, Love puts the blue back in my eye
e|-------5-----------7--5----------5-----------7--5-----
b|------------------------------------------------------
g|-6h7-------6-6h7----------6h7-------6-6h7------------
d|------------------------------------------------------
a|------------------------------------------------------
E|------------------------------------------------------
Love is come again, I am gone again
e|-------5-----------7--5----------5-----------7--5-----
b|------------------------------------------------------
g|-6h7-------6-6h7-----------7p6--------7-7p6-----------
d|------------------------------------------------------
a|------------------------------------------------------
E|------------------------------------------------------
Love's got to be with the weak, only then love gets a chance to speak
e|-------5-----------7--5----------7--5-------7---------|
b|------------------------------------------------------|
g|-6h7-------6-6h7------------7h6---------6-------------|
d|------------------------------------------------------|
a|------------------------------------------------------|
E|------------------------------------------------------|
Love will come again, I'll be gone again. . . again. . .
But then a 2nd guitar part comes in (it's really hard to hear)
(that's 16 times)
\/
e|------------------------------------------------------------------
b|-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7p6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6--
g|------------------------------------------------------------------
Love hears when I lie Love puts the blue back in my eye
e|------------------------------------------------------------------|
b|-6h7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-6h7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7--| 2x
g|------------------------------------------------------------------|
Love is come again I am gone again
Then comes the next part, with Edge's big overdrive guitar.
It's basically the same part played 3 times, but Edge mixes it up each time.
d|---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
a|---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E|--10---9--/--5----5----5-\-7--7------5-\-10---10--/--5--7------------10---9--/--5----5-\-7-----7---|
I... I can't escape myself. I'll hear you talk. . .
Then the last chorus. The guitar on this part gets kind of tricky, there are two guitars.
Guitar 1 plays this :
G Em D Bm
e|--3-----------0-------------2------------2-|
b|--3-----------0-------------3------------3-|
g|--0-----------0-------------2------------4-| (play these chords big and only once)
d|--0-----------2-------------0------------4-|
a|--2-----------2-------------x------------2-|
E|--3-----------0-------------x------------x-|
Feel nothing, I feel nothing, Fee-ee-ee-ee-eel!
(that's 16 times)
\/
e|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
b|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
g|-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2--
I can hear so much feel nothing I can hear so much
e|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
b|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
g|-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4--7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-|
Feel nothing. . .
Guitar 2 plays this (this gets hard).
(that's 12 times)
\/
e|-------------------0----------------------7-------------------------------------|
b|--5---3--2--0---3----3--3/5--5/7--7---5--------7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7h8-7h8--|
g|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
Feel nothing I feel nothing, Fee-ee. . .
Then for this next part (the end of "Fee-ee-ee-ee-eel!") there's a part that repeats (thank God).
It goes like this:
e|--------------------------|
b|-7--5------7----7h8--7h8- | 6x
g|-------7------------------|
Then he plays it a 7th time but ends it differently
e|--------------------------|
b|-7--5------7----7h8--7--- |
g|-------7------------------|
Then it's a new version of chorus Part 2:
e|-------5-----------7--5----------5-----------7--5-----
b|------------------------------------------------------
g|-6h7-------6-6h7-----------7p6--------7-7p6-----------
d|------------------------------------------------------
a|------------------------------------------------------
E|------------------------------------------------------
e|-------5-----------7--5----------5-----------7--5-----|
b|------------------------------------------------------|
g|-6h7-------6-6h7----------6h7-------6-6h7-------------|
d|------------------------------------------------------| 3x
a|------------------------------------------------------|
E|------------------------------------------------------|
Love is come again, I am gone again
There's also the other gutiar part from the 2nd chorus playing in the background.
End the song with this riff:
d|----------------------------------------------------
a|----------------------------------------------------
E|--10--/--5--7-------5--10---10--/--5--7-------------
I am alive, baby I'm born again,
d|----------------------------------------------------|
a|----------------------------------------------------|
E|--------10---9--/--5--5h7-----5--10---9--/--5--5h7--|
and again. . .
Ok, that's it. I hope you understand it. Email me if you have any questions: theedgeslespaul@sbcglobal.net
