I noticed how often in a U2 song, Larry will hit a particular drum when Bono starts singing. (for example, at "green light" lines in Stay) I think he hits the same drum for example in COBL when the verse starts.

Is there a name for this particular drum hit - I mean is this a regular drummer technique or is this internal Larry cue for Bono it's time to start singing?

i think your talking about a crash cymbal, and it's in every rock n' roll song, but it's not necessarily a cue for the vocals.

I *think* it's a cymbal, the same drum Larry hits at the end of Stay.

Thanks for the info, discotheque!

i think its a crash and a snare at the same time..i could be wrong..or right:wink:

-Zach :hmm:

no snare on that first beat, just crash and bass. you don't find many u2 songs that slow with a crash and snare hit on the same beat.
