I've got to say although I really like my pod and can get a lot of Edge-type sounds (modulated delay -mmmmmm!), it just lacks that "something" you get from the likes of a boss overdrive or a big muff.
What bugs me is that there's no delay spill over between patches and I find there's a slight gap when changing between sounds. The response I got from Line6 was that because it's essentially a computer you're asking it to stop one thing and do something else, there will inevitably be a few milliseconds interuption to your signal. Their advice was to carefully time patch changes.
For pedal purists the best thing I've seen is the Gig-Rig which allows you to set up combinations of stomp boxes into various patches. It saves you tap dancing all over the place. I think there's also a midi connection to allow programmable racks to be incorporated into the loops. A bit pricy, around £600 (uk) for what's essentially a foot control.
