Hi there. Just trying to learn this awesome song, and was wondering if anyone knows the notes and the effects settings (as in the slane castle version) for the opening notes the edge plays, its kind of a wah wah sound. Its very recognizable and once you hear it, you know exactly that it is UTEOTW.
Thank you

The actual intro to the song is a 'sequence'. As to what exactly was used for that, Edge has been asked and has been vague at best; not wanting to give away the elements to how that sound was acheived.

yeah, not an easy sound to re-create thats for sure. do as the edge does, and wait until the sequences is finished (or partly finished akin to the zoo tv version) and then start the song.

That intro (as heard on the album as well) is actually Bono singing through some treatment set-up. Similar to how Bono's voice is synthesized in Zoo Station.

Possible? Partially true.

Legend has it that he sang/yelled/vocalized something into the guitar pickups of a guitar, through tome Eno treatments... and that is how it was made.
