This comes from Bass Player magazine interview with Adam from December 2000 and it's of course dead on- it's the way Adam plays it and the way I've always played it.

In the verses just play around with some slides and then the rest you'll pick up by ear just by listening to the timing and the notes. There isn't a whole lot of bass played during the verses so just have fun with it. Personally I like to start the chorus off by briefly hitting an open E and then sliding down to start the riff.
