As far as I can understand, if you use a sample in your recording, you have to get permission from the artist/record company. So my questions are:
A: is this correct?
B: How does one go about this?
C: Do you have to pay money or royalities if you use a sample?
D: Can you get away with using samples without getting permission if you're a small time recording artist who probably won't actually sell your cd's but instead just distribute them for free or post them on a website (i.e. me
