Do we have any idea what kind of humbucker are in his explorer? Most modern explorers have open buckers, but his have the covers, so it makes it a bit harder to identify. Thanks everybody.

PEACE!

Edge's Exploer's humbuckers are...

I have a Ltd. Edition 1976 Explorer. It's the same make, model, year and edition as The Edge's.

Edge's Exploer's humbuckers are... "T-tops". This being the stock and only humbucker on Gibson guitars during 1976 (196X-1981).

How would a set of Gibson PAF '57 Classic pups compare to a vintage Explorer's T-Tops? I've been looking at these, and if they would be a good drop-in replacement for the high output pups in a new Explorer, then I might spring for a set. Thanks!

Thank you for the reply, Chas. Those are the SH-55 models, right? Looks like they make a neck and bridge pup. I'll definitely consider these, lots of folks seem to rave about them.

I put Lindy Fralins in my Explorer and the sound very much like 70s T tops. Mine are wound at 8K Neck and 9 K bridge.
