yes Boss FA-1 and a yellow pedal and i think Sobbat
as edge walk up the stairs...
at Dallas work station the TS-9 is there with 2 Boss
pedals. i think one maybe a tuner but not totally sure
hopefully we get more underworld (guitar world) pics
and videos as the tour goes on.
 
I'm quite relieved to see many real tube amps rather than seeing total replacement with Axe-Fx models.

Hm, i really wanna see Rig Rundown, don't care for people bashing U2 in the comment section.

Seems that Edge has Multiple Music Rising LPs with him. Also, a number of Casinos can be seen.

Yes, the Boss FA-1 is in the rack- it is circled in red in one of the pics below.

Disappointed that there was no direct shot of the front of the effects rack, but I'm sure we won't have to wait long for a Rig Rundown anyway.

Got more shots, including one of the front of the rack...

Seems that the rack still has 4 AXE FX units, but is not as tall as the one from the CAE photo from earlier in the year. The AXES can be seen in the red circle in one of the photos.

Also, there is an SDD-3000 pedal box present.

There are at least 8 guitar vaults there, each holding 4 guitars, meaning that Edge has AT LEAST 32 guitars on the road.

Is there a pic of the rack in there? I see one pic with a circle drawn unto it but I really can't see anything in there other then something vaguely green and blue.

Also 32 guitars. :huh: This is getting ridiculous. Radiohead themselves don't lug that many with them and they have three guitarists. Still, he can do whatever he want and as Edge said, half of them are backups, which would mean on average only 16 guitars get used per show. Which would still be a reduction from the 20+ he used per show in the past?

Yes, it is still alot of guitars, but is a reduction from the nearly 50 guitars he had on 360.


On 360 though, I honestly don't know why he had some of them with him. For example, he had that Gretsch Black Falcon which came with them on the whole tour, but was only used on a handful of occasions.
Also, the Moog sustainer guitar was brought out on 360, but never used,just occupying space in the guitar vaults under the stage. The same goes for the 'Vertigo' red and black target Line 6 Variax Acoustic guitar, used for 'Love And Peace' and 'The Fly' on the Vertigo Tour. They brought it out on 360, but never used it.

Like the way no I am sure that the red SG and the Pelham Blue SG are in those guitar vaults on this tour, but are not being used as 'Elevation' is not currently in the set. Same goes for Edge's 2008 Gibson-made clone of his main Cream LP which was auctioned off.

Speaking of cream LPs, 'Electric Co' was played on this tour using a pink Muisc Rising LP. You may recall that Edge had at least 2 of the pink MR LPs on 360. Again, another sign that he did not find the sound of the cream LP clone to be right. I expected that he would used the cream LP clone on 'Electric Co', as he used the cream LP that was auctioned to play that song on the Vertigo Tour, but he hasn't used it on this tour.

The picture of the Axe im not sure that was his rack... Its smaller than the Bob's picture. Maybe is an spare or that's not AXE and is another rack
 
I've been anallyzing picture and documentary. This rack i think is the main rack, but what i see is that's smaller than the picture from CAE. I don't know the reason...
 
I guess Edge needs many guitars still. But If I think about it....if there's spare to every single ones, then there are 16 "main" guitars, so if there are one guitar/ a song, then that suddenly sounds fine. Look at John 5, he does really have nice amt of guitars and he has individual guitar set to each Rob Zombie song.

On the Bob Bradshaw pics the Rab Fuzz could be seen on Edge's floorboard. So it would appear that they do plan to play Elevation at some point (maybe when they start 3rd night or more setlists in the same city?), or they just want to be able to play it if they feel the need to change the main setlist. After all, on 360 more and more new songs got dumped in favor of classics as that tour progressed and reception of new songs was perceived as only lukewarm.

You know, sometimes I think Edge is obsessed with tiny tiny details that 99.99% of the rest of us wouldn't even notice. I suspect that if he wasn't a famous guitarist in a famous band he would be one of those tone hounds on TheGearPage that get made fun of on other boards. One the one hand its good because it gives us these marvelous sounds he gets on the records, but in a live situation..... methinks whoever is in charge of the FOH mixing desk, the quality of U2's PA system and most importantly the acoustics of the venue are all more important to how his guitar sounds then the tiny differences between his old cream LP and the clone. I remember seeing them in the Amsterdam ArenA in 2005 and there was this nasty echo coming back from the stands that interfered with the overall sound.
 
Well I was at the Chicago show in 2011 where Edge actually used Black Falcon for One Tree Hill, so I really feel for Edge bringing that many guitars. Because such surprise performance rules.

It's probably better to feel for poor Dallas, as Edge sure as hell isn't the one who's physically bringing along those guitars, nor maintaining them, nor restringing each and every one night after night. :wink:

That being said methinks surprise performances are more governed by what Edge's rig is capable off and lesser to his choice in guitars. If his rig can't do the Rab Fuzz sound, or the Mysterious Ways sound, then it doesn't really matter if he's brought those guitars along.

I think the same. Dallas is maybe 62-63 years... And i think maintaining those guitars is difficult and more when the guitar are vintage cause the woods needs an special manteinance.
 
Hi. I'm new to the forum. Having analyzed the various 4k innocence + experience show vids as well as the CBS Sunday Morning interview on the net, I am quite confident the 2 VOX AC-30's on the floor in front of the Fender tweeds are 2 AC30HW2 chassis installed into AC30C2 cabinets. They are definitely not his old VOX AC-30's re-housed in new cabinets.

The tell tale signs:

Chassis: Control plate is black/dark face, white knobs, and the input jack cord plugged in closer to the center of the console (near the end of one side of the center handle), exactly where the top boost input jack is on the AC30HW2.

Cabinet: 2 bolts running down each of the sides near the rear where the cabinet rear cover screws on. These two bolts were only introduced with the C2X, and not evident on the original JMI, TBX, CC2. The grill cloth is the more "synthetic" looking cloth used on the modern day C2s. Not the nicer embroidered stitching that were used in the originals or TBXs. The cabinets also look brand spanking new. No rips or tears. Not sure if Edge realizes, but these cabinets are not natural birch ply. They are medium density fiber, which is a cheaper alternative, but much more rugged at the expense of resonance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=185&v=KjxKH-Vg0Js Check at 3:05. So the interviewer is mistaken, in that the AC-30's are not "antique" at all. Probably cos Edge was mostly talking about his Fender tweeds in the "antique" context.

My guess is Edge has put his #1 '64 JMI and #2 70's out to the pasture because of their reliability (as well as "saving" them from any further damage). He seemed to have already developed a liking for the modern day AC30 handwired reissues, having used the fawn covered reissues in the last tour and occasionally through to the present. I'm thinking he simply replaced out the cabinets cos he prefers the black tolex look. As VOX currently doesn't offer the AC30HW2 in black tolex, he must have removed the chassis and fit them into modern day AC30C2 black cabinets. Honestly, I agree with the aesthetic move... the fawn looks a bit too girlie on stage.

I'm guessing this is all for convenience and reliability now. Figure Edge being 50+ and Dallas also being a geezer, they'd rather give up on some tone in favor of ease/reliability. Some can also make the argument that perhaps the alnico magnets on the original VOX AC-30s have surpassed their "sweet" spot in regards to magnetic half-life. Kinda like how a 50's Strat pickup sounds like ass now.

Edge used the Black Falcon for Magnificent (Oakland 2011). I saw photos of Dallas walking it around the catwalk during the 2009 shows - although it wasn't used until much later in the tour; and even then a few times.

Seems that the idea of being open to new and change came with his embracing the Axe FX.

As for vintage amps - some are (Fender) some not (Vox, apparently). Same for guitars - all but the majority of Fenders are vintage. Being board members at Fender might be part of the decision. The other is that a lot of guitars got rained on and had to have repairs during the last tour. While they are playing indoors this time, perhaps they thought (as they had the original Explorer) that it was time to retire some of those - with a lot of wear - to studio use only.

Yep, I would bet that Dallas convinced Edge to leave some of his 70s vintage strats at home, just like he did with the Explorer, that could be one of the reasons why Edge now has so many new strats.

Also, do they have the original Explorer back out again on this tour?
 
No. His original explorer is out. The twp he has on tour are new ones... well really are the same year explorer than original but these are no his old explorer
 
I love all of those changes Edge made; it didn't make that much terrible differences, and those Axe-fx didn't sound too digitally, like, you know, guys from Metallica do.

Looks like Edge may have sourced his "new" black handwired Vox AC-30s from Northcoast music as they seem to be the only ones offering the HW2's in black tolex as a custom order. The silver screws on the sides seem to match the pics of Edge's voxes. Also Northcoast uses baltic birch ply...so they've got it "right".
